Recently got a Gobi Rack and since there were holes to mount lights, I had to buy some lights.

Ended up with a set of 4 IPF 6" halogen lights. Cost me around 300 bucks as I wanted to proof of concept (wind noise, look, wiring, ect.) before I dropped some serious coin on lights.

Now I'm ready but I can't find a light that fits the bill. Does any company make a round (or mostly round) LED light, approximately 6" diameter, that is a pure spot beam?

My biggest issue currently is the light spillage onto the hood from the halogens makes the lights less effective due to the massive amount of hood glare.

    Picture for reference

    Thanks!

Any personal experience with them? I know a lot of companies say "spot" pattern but it seems a lot of them are more of a spot combo.

    I paid a shop ;)

Wiring is the one thing I just don't mess with. The tedium, risk vs reward, nah, not for me.

All I can say knowledgely about it is that I have an on/off switch in the cab, and the lights are activated with the highbeams only. There are two relays under the hood, 1 per 2 lights, and the wiring is ran down the driver side a pillar with a KC wire hider, no drilling.

Easy way out? Spots on grille and camp lights on the sides of the rack. The ergonomics of the rack/4runner make it difficult to eliminate hood glare.

Have Baja Designs Wide Cornering Amber Fog Lights, Amber Spot XL Sports, and 2 Amber Spot LP6 behind the grille lights. Absolutely love the output.

It's so well hidden its hard to see. With the KC wire hider it's pretty much invisible but it's running down the glass next to the A pillar. I dremeled a small hole in the plastic cowl for the wires to pass from the windshield area into the engine bay. Waaaay better than drilling the roof.

    16134947810195346037246945442232.jpg

I would be all about this if I didn't like the look of the roof lights so much. While I know form should fallow function, there has got to be a light out there that has a strict pencil beam.

Where do you have the XL spots mounted?

    Ah gotcha

If you get a chance I'd like to see a beam pattern of the lights behind the grille.

Went with smaller diameter driving lights with louvered covers that remain in place with lights on.

The covers decrease hood glare, but don't eliminate it. Not willing to wrap the entire hood and the black scoop decals only minimize the glare in the center. For as often as I use them, may just live with it.

The bigger problem is the siren call to every flying bug in a four county radius.

Now thats some serious research. Thanks for the link

I looked at those but I worry that they'll have the same issue with light spill. Tell me about the wait, even after it was shipped fedex lost their minds with it for weeks.

I appreciate it but I'm just not into the light bar look personally, much prefer the round light old school look.

the real question I have is what are the results from your proof of concept. Hows the wind noise with round lights on top? I just installed a gobi rack and am very happy with the lack of wind noise. I ran a sherpa on an f150 (which is much better sound insulated) and it was very noticeable. I notice NOTHING on the 4runner with the gobi, and would really like to know how much round lights add in noise.

The wind noise with the lights is barely noticeable. I can easily have a conversation at 75 and comfortable music listening. I dont regret the lights existing up there. The biggest thing I absolutely hate is the light pattern. The combo beam on the roof is useless. It makes my hood just as bright as the road. I think IPF makes great, economical halogens, that would be awesome for a front bumper, 0% for this application.

Because of this, I have these...

    20221226_190609.jpg

KC Gravity Pro 6's in a spot beam pattern to limit the awful spill. Should be going on later this week :D

Those are NICE. I thought about that style but I need the mount to swing 90’ inline with the light.

They're on! Testing this week. I had to drill new mounting holes as the back of the lights was hitting the upper support bar for the rack.

    Oh, new windshield too haha

Also new decals to get rid of the yellow covers from Etsy, color matched to the "TOYOTA" lettering on the grille.

Aw man that's awesome. I'm strongly considering a pair in the driving pattern on the A pillars or in front of the upper grille in line with the headlights.

.....and then maybe a pair or spots to go with them....

Definitely recommend the driving pattern on the grille, had that on my Tacoma. Spotties on the A pillars
