I asked the question on the Amazon posting if it would be compatible. I’m waiting for a response. I’ll post here when they get back to me. If I do get it, I will sell my factory unit. Thanks for the idea!

They responded on Amazon and indicated it is NOT compatible.

Got it, sorry man! There is definitely less of an aftermarket for the 2020+’s just because the headunit provides CarPlay and android auto that people wanted for so long.

If you’re dead set on replacing, I would check out the pioneer floating tablet. It’s got really solid reviews and a great screen

I did find some hidden settings that help add some functions to the radio and for me helped the reception.

Nice! Are you talking about the EQ settings or something different?

I went into the CAR setting and found there were 2 settings for USA radio and turned on RDS.

Within CarPlay, when you say data issues, are you saying google maps, Spotify, etc. aren’t loading fully? Not on this unit, but on my wife’s car with stock CarPlay, I have trouble loading Spotify songs when we’re in poor signal areas.

For your notes out of CarPlay, do you mean apps on the headunit or apps on your phone?

I have no issue with apps on my phone, but had to use my phone as a hotspot for data for the android apps (not CarPlay) I was downloading on the headunit. I think you can hook up a SIM card or hotspot as well, but haven’t looked into it.

zlink does use “wifi” between your phone and the headunit for wireless CarPlay. It shouldn’t for wired CarPlay as far as I know

Yes I was referring to the apps loading. In CarPlay.
Yes I was trying to get the apps out of CarPlay to work. I found out that it uses WiFi to connect to CarPlay so you have to turn CarPlay off and then turn your phone into a hot spot for them to work.
I’m finding the radio sucks no matter what I do and the steering wheel buttons are hit and miss after programing.
My honest opinion is the whole setup is a little glitchy still. I like the CarPlay when it works correctly. Today was my first road trip using it and I had volume issues and call issues. Sometime the steering wheel would answer the call sometimes I had to use the screen and sometimes the phone itself because the steering wheel wouldn’t work and the hand up button want on the screen.
The biggest pain was volume issues. I would be listening to a audiobook through CarPlay and loose volume level after calls so I would have to turn up the volume to max just to hear it. When a route guide announcement would come over it would almost blow my speakers. I tried to reset it to fix it but it kept occurring. I checked the volume on my phone to see if it would adjust but it was stuck halfway which would explain my low volume.
I’ll give support a couple more tries and make a decision to keep it or not after that.

Totally respect it! That’s why I ordered from Amazon, able to return after trying it out.

Do you have those apps set to not use cellular data? Because I have all my apps working fine within CarPlay, and using data, even though it’s technically connecting through wifi.

I’m not on the road much during work so I haven’t tried answering calls from wheel so good to know on call answering not working from steering - I haven’t tried it yet. I do have to turn it up a bit when I am on on a call vs not.

If you just want CarPlay and stock headunit check out Beatsonic that puts CarPlay in your stock headunit. I haven’t tried it yet but have heard good things from TRDJon’s videos (which also led me to try this one)

I haven’t done this yet but apparently I’m the management settings you can reprogram buttons. Not sure if that applies within CarPlay though

Yeah I have programmed them, but apparently there are 2 ways to do it and they can conflict.

Gotcha. I’ll probably try to screw around in those settings this weekend. Just have to take a picture of them so I can revert haha

After more use it’s starting to grow on me. The radio reception is still terrible but CarPlay seems to be more stable. I’m thinking I’m going to keep it as having the CarPlay Nav is a major plus. Hopefully between them and Apple I can get the rest of my CarPlay issues fixed.

I only tried the radio for 45ish seconds to confirm it worked, so good to know. I’m an all Spotify/pandora guy for music. There should be a screw in antenna in the back of the unit that may help if you haven’t already installed it?

Agreed on the CarPlay being a huge plus. That’s really the entire reason I bought it. I thought about Beatsonic but felt this was worth a try for it’s extra capabilities, bigger screen, and essentially the same cost.

Did you end up changing anything here in factory settings to adjust the brightness? The best I can figure out for a dimmer screen is to set the contrast lower (default was 50 and I set it to 30 to help with nighttime brightness). I haven't tried twilight app...is that still working well for you for night time dimming?

I did the same thing you did prior to twilight. I don’t drive much at night but use twilight to dim it when I do.

that being said, you can probably adjust in the factory settings more, I just need to play around more! I’m on a work trip this week but will play around with it more this weekend

Cool I got Twilight installed today and will try it out more later...appreciate the tip on finding that app for sure. I like that there is a sunset to sunrise setting as well based on location...if that actually works at least.

When I got my dasaita unit I had to turn Carplay from "Zlink" to "No" in the factory settings menu, then hit "Apply" and then turn Carplay back to "Zlink" and "Apply then "Exit" and reboot in order to get Carplay to start working. I did the same thing for the Brightness control in Factory settings today turning it to "Disable" and then "Apply" and then turning it back to to "Auto (enable by headlamp)" and "Apply", "Exit" and reboot....after doing that it made a more noticeable difference when turning my lights on/off during the day, but we'll see how it performs at night or if I still need Twilight.

How is the volume of the mic when you make calls, can the other person hear you? I’ve tried everything I can find on line to fix this problem on my T10 with no solution.

I ran the external mic and mounted in that little notch by your right knee on the dash. Everyone I talk to say I sound fine.

What he said^. I tried without the external initially and people could hear me but it sounded like I was a bit distant (still able to hear me fine) on speaker apparently. The external mic clears that up

FYI, if you tell them you need canbus CB047, you can fit this in a 2021 4Runner. You do have to file out around the hazard switch a bit to make the hole bigger. Otherwise, everything works!

Why would you replace the radio in a 2021? The whole point at least for me is to get Apple CarPlay.
