    Hey everyone!

Been perusing the forums for a bit now and was asking all kinds of questions about getting a TRD Pro in Lunar Rock.

My order wasn't going to be fulfilled so I went in to put in an early order for an ORP in lunar rock for 2022 but then test drove the limited nightshade that came in.

Being in Texas I LOVED the vented/cooled seats. Never was a fan of the limited look but the nightshade accents really changed the way it looked for me. After realizing I wasn't going to off road at all, I figured it was the way to go and pulled the trigger right then and there!

I freaking love this thing and am coming from a Honda Accord so the difference is drastic!

I'm almost ashamed to admit that it's a 2wd with all the hate people post on here but it was right there in front of me at the dealership for just below MSRP and I figured this was my chance to snag one during the shortage.

Had it for 3 days and I'm already ordering mods because I still want a more rugged look. I'm open to suggestions!

Ordered n-fab Nerf bars, an LED kit, liners, the canvasback carg and looking at the pedal commander next.

Excited to finally be part of the Toyota/4R family!!

I definitely have been keeping up with all of your threads about the step bars for the limited. Did you decide on some?!

Yeah I just saw you're scoping out what I've been looking for in terms of making the Nightshade a little more rugged looking. Not my 4Runner(s) but you may find these pics useful and relevant. Looking forward to seeing your eventual upgrades to compare notes!

I'll be getting my nerfs later this week. Will keep you posted!

My only issue that I'm worried about is how low the car will look with them on. But I really like the black rocker panels and don't want to take them off. Maybe I need to level/lift it

Gonna stick them on and see what I think.

    Really appreciate those pictures!

Yeah do the due diligence on the lift / spacer upgrade. On these forums I've read mixed outcomes, as some said it may affect our XREAS suspension and sensors, others have said it was a non issue.

I agree with your concern about how our version sits lower than the other trims, but being a guy who is 5'9" I think the step bars will help in my situation. If you're 5'11 - 6'+? May not be an issue.

Anyway, just happy for a fellow Nighshader! Treat her well!

I think certain lift kits need you to remove the X-REAS system but I'm not sure I wanna start messing with all of that just yet.

I'm about 6'3" but I still want something to step on to get in. Plus the wife is only 5'5" so she needs something to help her haha

I was thinking of maybe bigger tires? Haven't done much research on that front but it could add some height.

Welcome fellow Texan and congrats on the new Nightshade, from a Houstonian. It was a "down to the wire" hard choice for me between the venture and the nightshade. Put that 2WD vs. 4WD shame away; you bought into a great platform for fun and enjoyment.

My first "ceremonial mod" was a center console tray - they should come with one of these from the factory!

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FY8QYVM?ie=UTF8

Looks like you are already tinted, but if not - bump me and I'd be happy to recommend my go-to tint guy. My venture is black and I'm glad that I went ceramic all the way around (incl. the windshield) - makes a big difference in this Houston heat! But, you made the smart choice and went with white!

    Enjoy!

Houstonian here as well! Console tray has been acquired already

I know for sure it's tinted but I'm not sure if the factory one is ceramic or not...unlikely.

I've heard great things about the ceramic tint but I haven't had any issues with heat so far since it's white!

In my use case with the venture, I don't have any plans for hard-core off road rock crawling or trails, etc. - more interested in doing light overland camping and off the beaten path exploring. Being a Houstonian, I also wanted some added height when our "gully washing" rains come and lock some people out of their subdivisions due to flooded streets (I spent 4+ hours cooling my heels at the neighborhood entrance waiting for the great waters to recede). All the while, the modestly lifted trucks and SUVs passed me by and went home.

That being said, I went with a modest lift solution (Billstein 5100 series) adjustable struts on the front and rear shocks (with airbags added). I came out with a front 1.5" level with the option to air-adjust the rear when trailering (or added load). This also opened up my options for tires and solved my mud flap rub issues with the BFG KO2 tire upgrade. I did not want to drop a lot of $ on an extreme suspension mod. Not sure what the rake is like on a 2WD. Something to think about, anyway!

I could see that even with a modest lift, you'll need something like the "Predator Style" tubes/steps for the Mrs. - I'm 6', so no problem for me getting in/out without them. There are electrically retractable running board options out there (if you're into them).

If you don't mind me asking, how much did that set you back with labor and parts? I definitely want to be able to traverse the flood waters if it came down to it and bigger tires never seems to be a bad thing haha

I try to steer away from posting my out of pocket on forums - they often turn into "you paid too much, etc" thread hijacks. :) That being said, google "Billstein 5100 strut / shock kit" and Firestone "Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs". It would be wise to follow up with a suspension alignment and getting your headlights re-aligned. I've heard good things about Duggy's Garage and I've had good personal experience with 4Wheel Parts in the Houston area.

A word to the wise when considering lifts and levels. From the picture, it looks like your Nightshade is equipped with TSS (Toyota Safety System) features. This relies on front-facing radar and a camera in your windshield. There are a few threads out there where folks start getting into TSS issues which they offset the height dynamics. It's worth a thread and google search.

I've not seen any TSS issues thus far, although I'm starting to suspect that the auto high beam feature (tied to TSS) is not working as well as it did before. I'm not going to pursue the issue since I've never been a fan of that feature, and I've been well trained at operating high/low beams since the days the switch was on the floor, behind the e-brake pedal. Yes, I just aged myself.
