I like healthy debating, hence, my question you didn't answer; If toe - camber - caster are in spec, can you elaborate why you should have problems?

I think, much worse is driving a vehicle Off-Road with not enough clearance.

Experience in Off-Roading and in any sport or hobby plays an important part. Sure, in life they are never guarantees. I have seen many Off-Roading (rocks) or racing, spending money on a 8K suspension lift and 100K on modifying a sports car into a racing car; in place spending first some money to take classes.

    Chris,

You're wrong for sure on this one, I even underlined the word spec.

No, aftermarket UCA’s are not required on 03-19 & up Toyota 4Runner's. Lifting the vehicle over 2.5” on some vehicles the stock upper control arms have difficulty getting caster correctly within the factory recommended range.

In case they are in the factory recommended range it should be fine even with a 3" lift - Only in case out of spec or in other words factory recommended range you should adjust your height; otherwise, some components might wear early.

Understand that selling UCA's are good business because most people don't understand what a good alignment is and how important after installing a lift.

Some companies selling lift's and UCA's in case totally honest will tell you the same I do. You don't think Icon is a reputable company; they like to sell, sure, hence, they are honest, they are stating this in writing, the same I said, see below in the link.

I find it’s not correct, that members get scared for damage with statements that are untrue and spent their hard-earned money for something that is not needed.

No sweat Roland. I'll have to respectfully disagree.

And I might add if you are happy with your lift then who am i to argue. Not to mention that Dobinson lift you have is sweet looking and looks to be a lot of bang for the buck.

I’m using SPC UCAs with an ICON lift. You don’t have to buy theirs.

    Well, thank you.

The reason I'm happy, I purchased the 4R to go off-road, and acquired it new in 2019 to date I have only 15000 miles. I have other vehicles to drive every day. I mentioned it before, I like rock-crawling doing it for 26 years, with other vehicles much more capable than the 4R. I did not know much about suspension lift's on the 4R, knowledgeable members here on this Forum guided me in the right direction, this is a great Forum with helpful & friendly people.

When the lift was done, I took it to the task in Moab and was impressed, I did trails normally only for much higher clearance vehicles with lockers front & rear. I wouldn't even attempt to do the Moab Rim, Pritchett Canyon and other trails that difficult with the 4R, I have done them in the past with my H1 & H2. Hence, the 4R did a very respectable job over there.

The 4R grow on me with the lift and bigger tires, 4" overall increase in height makes a big difference as well behavior off and on road, freeway, City; brakes are better, no more nose dive, more articulate, tracks very well, no more wobbling, no loose steering, these changes made me take it out more often and enjoy.

I have a heavy foot, I was born in Europe and lived there for 45 years, drove a great part of my life on the German Autobahn, before settling in the US, this was a big adjustment for me have to drive that slow. I felt the need to pick my old hobby back-up and visited the racing grounds here in the US, realizing quickly that I was getting to old to race again. I fell in love with the beauty and people of this Nation, and fortunately enough that I could travel this great Country extensively. My passion for automotive sport moved into visiting National Parks and off-roading, with no regrets.

Sure, you are correct; I was not saying that. I said that Icon is not pushing you to buy aftermarket UCA's at all, like many 4WD outfits do. Icon states: " aftermarket UCA’s are not required on 03-19 & up Toyota 4Runner's. Lifting the vehicle over 2.5” on some vehicles the stock upper control arms have difficulty getting caster correctly within the factory recommended range."

Over 3" I agree, below 3" not so much. My lift is 2.7" and in spec within the factory recommended range. It's easy enough to observe, when caster is of, your wheel will be pushed forward into the wheel well, I have 285/70/17 and do not touch a thing, with the bigger tires giving me around a 4" lift. 4WD drive shops try to sell you UCA's with a 1" lift, if you let them.

Many here on this board have 2.5" lift's without problems with OEM UCA's, just saying. If I would go higher, a half an Inch more getting me 3.2" that half an inch gain in height would not really help me going Off-Road, making my wallet lighter, sure, UCA's maybe bump stops $$$. In case I would do a lift 4 - 6" we are talking about changing nearly everything, which I'm not interested to do.

In case I would want a 4-6” lift. I would use a different vehicle, not a 4R. I see the 4R as a great all-rounder and not specific to one application. Only time will tell if my assessment is correct. Just my 2c.

OP don't want to hijack your thread, I will delete this if anyone object. I know this is a 4R Forum.

Yes, sometimes we have to disagree to agree.

I mentioned in my previous post, I have 26 years of experience in rock-crawling on the most difficult trails In Moab, UT and other places in the US no way you can even attempt to do this with a 4R no matter how high you lift and what you change, maybe with tracks, still. I did 95% of them trails, with different vehicles.

Sometimes, I stayed In Moab for 3 Month's per year only doing rock-crawling, fishing and hunting. I actually purchased the 4R as a versatile fun vehicle, which I like a lot.

Attempted 3" Rough Country lift kit...no luck. UCA's couldn't clear the new beefier coils.
OKAY. CLOSURE FOR THIS LITTLE PROJECT! I got a shop that does lift kits all the time to install for me.
They used the UCA's that were on my runner, they just had to remove them & reinstall once they got the front set up installed in place.
