Forgive me if this is naive, but why not just get an OR with KDSS and then get some TRD Pro Fox shocks? Then you have both.

People are taking them off of their TRD Pros all the time in favor of something better, so you can get the Fox at a decent price. It even helps level the vehicle. This has always been my plan; wouldn't this setup be ideal for the majority of on and off road situations?

And please, if this is a stupid plan, I'd love to be told so.

For the money spent on the pro suspension, you can get something that offers more/better performance for trail setups. If you’re planning on sticking to the road and stay with OEM equipment, then that’s the way to go. Otherwise there is better setups for the money.

If you don’t install Iron Man on your truck, you will die on the trail and never come back. It’s got foam in it. And it’s from Australia, so it’s better than everything else. It’s your funeral.

    LoL..
All I can say is Pro with FOX is not bad from factory but no where close compared to ELKA 2.5 DCs with my experience.

Im going to Kings 2.5 coil-overs ....should be here any week :bananadance:

btw Im currently running bilsteins 6112/5160 kit which was a HUGE improvement over stock(non kdss) trdor for minimal cost comparatively

My wife’s brand new ORP got Wheelers 5100 lift for $799, Rock sliders (a must) and a good set of all terrains. Done. You can wheel a vast majority of trails with comfort and confidence.

That’s what 15 years of wheeling and experimenting, and spending money in my Tacoma taught me. I have fully tuned Fox shocks under it that are ready for a rebuild after 45k miles. I’ll have to go under, rip it all out, get the rebuild and put it all back. And repeat every 45k. Be careful what you wish for, especially if you’re doing the maintenance. Shocks are nice but look at ease of maintenance too.

It’ll be nice to swap a 5100 with a new one and be done in 30 min and $100 bucks on the wifes 4R

I may have overstated my case a bit. I just mean to point out that in some off-road scenarios, KDSS has advantages over the PRO Fox setup.

In high speed situations, the Fox setup will probably be better.

For low speed, off camber stuff, the added articulation from KDSS will be a slight advantage.

The ultimate weekend warrior setup, IMO, is an OR with KDSS and a shock upgrade.

If you're looking for ultimate off-road performance, a sway bar delete and high end coilovers will beat anything. And, if you plan this type of upgrade, the PRO is a waste of money, as is KDSS.

This is a great plan! You won't be disappointed. You'll have the PRO's high speed performance AND the added flex of KDSS.

Understood. Admittedly, the knowledge of the topic is very limited, and I've got a lot more research to do before pulling the trigger on anything.

Excellent, thank you for the feedback, that is very reassuring and helpful.
