I guess I’m one of the lucky chosen ones with the steering wobble at highway speeds. I just put on a set of 265 wild peaks with method 701 wheels on my 2020 sr5p. Ive done 2 balances and I need to go back for more. Possibly need to do an alignment (Im going on 18k miles and haven’t done one). I’ve searched and found countless posts on this topic but curious, who’s actually been able to fix this and what worked for you? Not finding a lot of solutions but a lot of the same problems.

Are those to wheels hub centric or do they have centric rings at least? I had shake with lug centric XD wheels and I didn't have the rings because they were barely bigger than the hubs. I eventually switched to TRD pro hub centric wheels.... Smoothed everything out.

I am betting an alignment may be it, the tires are fighting each other a little bit...

That’s my next plan of attack. Car only has 18k miles on it and doesn’t pull so I initially thought, nahhh that’s not it. But at this point, I’m willing to try it out since I keep getting told the wheels are balancing out nicely and my rotors seem fine.

I just got new tires and sometimes I think they need to break in a little to wear so they line up, but I am pretty much making this up lol... Did it do this with your original tires and rims?

Original stock wheels and crappy stock Dunlops drove and smooth. Never thought I’d say I sorta miss them now. Not sure if I buy the idea of a break in period.

If it didn't wobble with the OEM tires and wheels, it's probably a balance issue. Who's balancing your tires? I had a wobble after a chain balanced my tires. A trip to a trusted off-road shop got them perfect.

I think the 4runner is sensitive to off balance tires. A friend of mine recently returned a set of Wildpeaks to Discount Tire after multiple failures at balancing them. But, most people who use Wildpeaks are happy with them.

it might not be the problem but I just checked out the link you posted for those wheels and they are not hub centric, they are 106.25 which is a little bigger than the 4runners hub at 106.1. This is what I ran into with my wheels and they couldn't balance them after about four tries, they finally put it up on the lift and ran it in four wheel drive and noticed that all four wheels hopped very slightly. Since it was so close to 106.1 I couldn't get any rings since they would be as thin as a couple sheets of paper, so I decided to try to put two layers of metal tape on my hubs to make the wheels fit snug on the hub and I got it almost perfectly smooth doing that... Not saying those wheels won't be able to be smooth, but with my wheels the lugs and cones they pushed into on the wheels were getting chewed up so I decided to get new...

well damn… my inner Lebowski just said “new sh*t has come to light.” I’ve heard of other running 701’s perfectly fine BUT this is the an element I wasn’t considering. I wonder if the shop I go to will have some TRD pro Semas I can test out if the balance and alignment doesn’t work. Thanks for the tip and link on this!
