Help w/ Audio Install for 2021 4Runner without Factory Amp /JBL

Greetings!

The title says it all!

In more detail, I am kind of at a loss right now on how to integrate the factory head unit without completely butchering the OEM wires. I've checked for harnesses with Maestro and Tacotunes, but I am not seeing anything available.

My strategy is the following:

OEM Head Unit > Fix88 > DSP > 3 Amp Configuration > Rewiring Factory Cables > Rewire Rears into Parallel

I could just tap the front components, but what I really want is to start with a cleaner signal before entering the DSP.

Any assistance would be WONDERFUL.

 

What dsp are you using? There are many that will take a high level (your oem signal) source, and SUM the channels,and give you a low level (much more desired) rca connection. Also, are you using a amp on all channels? Lotta wiring needed there. Not that it cant happen.
I went aftermarket HU, to dsp, to amplifier. I run the front doors and dash drivers, amped, and the remaining locations ran off the HU
I also used a maestro unit (which i love, it gave me on board signals i can use to see mph, battery voltage, tire monitor, rpm, o2 intake, exhaust gas, and a billion other things, (basically every thing the obdII sees) right on my HU) to run off/after the hu.

I also, went with a aftermarket hu, because there isnt a line out put converter made, that can really give you a undistorted, clean signal. BUT, some dsp's (audio control) do a damn fine job of the switch, and can even tweak the oem signal. (Many oem sources, will cut the low end, as you turn it up, to save their trash paper drivers,... ) or, not even have a true 20hz-20khz band width to start with. Again, unwanted. I traded in my Subie WRX for an amazing deal and got my other dream car this year lol!

I had an audio set up in that car... I stripped it down to port it over, but found an added surprise that the 4Runner is an 8 speaker configuration!

So, I am just purchasing an additional amp to pair with my existing 4 channel and mono amps.

Which head unit did you go with? Ideally I want to stay OEM, but I was looking at a Kenwood this time around.

You can try an OEM looking China unit from Cartrim Home. I went with a Pioneer floating screen and it sucks just like my previous Pioneer headunit.

 

Agreed on Pioneer. Been there.

 

I replaced all OEM speakers with Kickers. Used a line out converter to run a self powered 8” sub. Sound u is s soooo much better. Ordered everything from Crutchfield. Includes instructions, harnesses and mounting brackets for free.

That sucks that some of the aftermarket parts didn't fit. Pretty much why I am opting to tap into the OEM HU since aftermarket is limited. The 2021 has a few integrated features that I'd want to preserve. Also, its not a *terrible* HU feature wise, sound quality maybe not so much.

 

It's amazing to me that neither Metra nor Scosche have made a new install kit for the 20+ 4Runners. We're going on two years that these have been out.

 

maestro makes cables for the JBL version... but the headunit seems to elude everyone lol!

I also think Toyota is behind it. not even Crutchfield says that there is a compatible product that replaces or connects to the headunit...

 

Per the thread I posted, there are still two problems: (1) A USB connector that changed from prior years; and (2) the HU install kit mentioned above. I got around them, but it sucked.
