    deposit on 2022 new build
After reading here, I have some questions.
    1. Dealers preselling cars :
They have my deposit/ I have no V.I.N.
Do I 1) need to determine their allocation of Army Green Trail edition.
    2. Lock it in with a V.I.N.
Youtube rumour says that's the only 2022 colour, cement was 1st choice.
    Help me out.
    Big city, 6 dealers here.
    No info on price, even.
    Alberta, Canada.
What questions do I need to ask/ get answered?
    Thanks.
I have a deposit on nothing...

I ordered a 2021 4R OR w/KDSS on June 19th and it has still not been Allocated. The dealership can't confirm I will get 2021 or 2022 now or when I will have it. Maybe October or November.

From all of the information I've gathered, the "allocation" process works like this:
    1. Customer wants to "order" a vehicle in the color they want with the accesories/packages they want
    2. Dealership takes a deposit on the "order" and requests the vehicle from Toyota.
    3. Dealership waits to be allocated the vehicle. (this may or may not happen)
    4. Dealership is finally allocated the specific vehicle the customer wants
    5. Vehicle is built in Japan, then shipped to the united states.
    6. Packages/add-ons are installed at the port, then the vehicle is shipped to the dealership.

The main step in this process is step #3. Just because the dealership requested a certain vehicle in a certain color does not mean they'll get it. If the dealership you're going through seems confident, that's a good sign. I ordered our 4runner in the middle of March, and it took about a month and a half for the dealership to get the allocation. Here we are 3.5 months after that and I'll be getting the vehicle in a couple of weeks.

My guess is, if your dealership isn't allocated your vehicle in the next month, you'll be getting a 2022. That's just a guess/opinion though.

*Edit* sorry, I just saw on your post that you're from Canada. Step 5 would change a little bit from that. No reason to ship it to the U.S. I dont think lol

That’s exactly how it works, depending on the vehicle. My 17 Tacoma was an “order” and other than being built in Texas, it’s the same. The more cars the dealership sells, the more allocations they get. Sometimes dealerships will trade allocations with other dealerships to get your vehicle. The other part to the system, Toyota does not build special orders, your vehicle is built when the assembly line is set up to do so. Toyota builds so many of this color SR, then so many of this color OR, etc. My Tacoma is a manual transmission, so my truck wasn’t built until it was time for the assembly line to build a bunch of MTs.
