I'm looking to install a Thule cargo box on my Sherpa rack. The issue is, the clamp areas on the box are recessed in. I'd basically have to remove most of the bars for it to sit down onto the rack. Which I can't do because of other accessories mounts in use.

With out drilling, it will be coming off when not in use, how are most of you mounting it? I'd like to use the clamps that are on the box for ease of on and off.

    Any ideas, thought, images? Thanks

Which Thule box do you have? My Sherpa rack is in my garage waiting to be installed. I have a Thule pulse alpine that I intend to use with the Sherpa rack on occassion and was of the understanding it would be a non-issue. Suppose I need to get the rack installed and find out!

Is that one completely flat on the bottom? The Force and Motion have a bump where the crossbars go to bring the front and rear lower but that makes it a pain in the ass with multiple crossbars and the mounting clamps (QuickClamp)

Ah, after looking at the Motion, I see what you mean. The Pulse is different in that the 'channel' is width of the majority of the box with slight extrusions on the ends. (if that makes sense) This very well may still cause an issue for me which is a bummer.

I ended up ordering a Yakima Skybox 16 Carbonite. It's flat on the bottom. I would've preferred a higher end Thule but they will not work without some type of modification or removal of most of the cross bars to make it work.

Ordered Yakima today from local dealer.

Hello i am a few months late to this thread but hoping you will see this. I am in the same dilemma with my sherpa rack & thule cargo box.
Did the Yakima skybox 16 fix your issue? How is the cargo box’s clearing on the rear and front of the rack?

Yes, the Yakima box mounts with no issues on the Sherpa. Plenty of room underneath so that the clamps, when open, don't hit the roof and allow you to move the box around to fine tune it's position.

Just put a Sherpa rack on my 2021 this weekend. Then went and bought a Thule Force xl. Fits perfectly if you move the crossbars around (and looks slick because it sits low). On the force only the front and rear dip down, there is a large flat space in the middle you can put several bars. I have two bars up front, four in middle and two in the rear. Highly recommend.

I am way behind on this post, but do you have any pictures of your setup? I am looking to do the same, but it looks like Thule recently changed the Force and now the mounting points are recessed. I am looking to do the same setup, but am worried it won't work.

Here’s a picture of my Sherpa Crestone with a Thule Force XT XL.

I can still use my sunroof, both cracked and fully open, which is nice.
