    Hello,
I’m interested in purchasing a 2002 4runner Highlander 4x4 in immaculate condition (stock). Has about 160,000 miles on it and the seller is asking $18,500.00. Am I crazy to assume that it’s well over priced?

IMHO. even though all Toyotas are typically dependable, I think that is pretty steep for an '02 Highlander, with that many miles.
My son recently bought an '07 with only about 40 k miles for a LOT less.
BTW...it's either a 4Runner or a Highlander, two different vehicles.

Totally news to me. Have owned 3 gens, but never heard of such a vehicle name. My third gen, however, is a '98 ltd.

Is it the original owner and do they have records of maintenance? It could be, but it better be maintained to be asking a price like that. It is in California so everything is more expensive then typical.

Yes that is stupid high! And I overpay for clean 1st gen tacos/3rd gen 4runners. If it had 60k miles a hard maybe but too high by about 10k. Also 02s don't come with a rear locker.

Gotta wonder then why they separated the two model names and only made it for two years. And Sport addition 4Runner...oh, it's got a hood scoop.

He's the 4th owner and is definitely tripping thinking he'll get that much for it!

Agreed! I thought that it had the rear locker, but it's the center diff lock. So I'm gonna pass!

That’s Tacoma level prices. 4runner like that typically sells around 10k here usually

Way too high. I have been looking for a couple of months for a clean pre-facelift 3rd Gen and there are tons out there for under $10k.

I paid $6500 for this one today. 1997, 2 owner, 240k, very clean and drives great

4runner are the new broncos .... in 30 yrs that will be $25k.... if you scroll up you can see I bought one for 7k salvage .... had new panel welded on and whole truck painted ... into it for just under 12k .... but will drive it for 200k miles so I think its a pretty good deal.... I dig it.

How do you know if its a 4runner Highlander or not? I've been asked a few times and have no clue.

It's amazing how much these have risen in value. About 7 years ago I purchased a 1996 2wd 4runner sr5 for $1,800. It had 189k miles.

I also bought a 99 limited 4x4 with rear locker. It had a blown motor, $1,500.

It's interesting that 4th gen 4runners haven't risen as much. Every car/truck is worth more in this market, but 1st gen Taco and 3rd gen 4runners are pulling crazy numbers.

Also looking at purchasing 2001 limited 4x4, California car, 101k miles…for 18k. Very clean, lil paint oxidation on front bumper but well maintained. Just not sure what to do

I ended up opting out of purchasing it. I believe the seller ended up getting about $15k for it. Maybe see if they're open to $13k cash and go up from there?

The prices of these vehicles should start to crash at least a little bit now that people are starting to run out of all free government money that should of never been handed out.

If you don't need it right this second, I would say wait a few months. If you can keep your money from being spent you should be able to get 3rd Gen 4Runners for pennies on the dollar in the near future compared to today's prices.

i bought my limited with a misfiring cylinder for $1700. Decent amount of cosmetic damage, but power seats / sunroof still work. drove it home and set out on repairing engine ourselves. in our area, you couldnt find a running one for less than 5k. insane over covid years.

They are getting more difficult to find in good condition, especially with low miles. I just purchased one last week in Irvine, California 98 limited four-wheel-drive with rear dif lock, paint is immaculate. Interior is also in very good condition all stock with all the maintenance records done at dealerships 107,500 miles, $17,600
The most difficult part is really trusting the seller. I live in San Diego and drove all the way out to Phoenix to look at one to buy it in the pictures. It looked immaculate, and he told me that it was in “pristine” condition, 6 Hour Dr. and it took me all of two minutes to know That it was a freaking three out of 10 and he was asking 20,000 what a disappointment I rented a car 12 Hour Dr. I don’t get upset anymore I just enjoy the drive and grateful for everything
