    Hello. New to the group. I have a 17 limited 4runner. I'm in the market for new rims/wheels and saw this pic. I really like the look. The rims are 24x10, with a 5.97 backspace and +12 offset. They also have 22x9.5 with the same specs.

    I know the ride will be rougher, and most think this is dumb, but I just want to make sure they will work...with no rubbing/touching on the brakes/suspension?

    i have seen one set exactly the same yesterday, in white, with chrome rims.
    i think those were 22", could've been 24", really no meat on that sidewall.
    while not my style, it didn't look bad, it was ok. This look only works on the limited, as it has already chrome galore on it.

    It's gonna be tough to know if it'll fit as most of the dudes here haven't tried running 24's.

    I personally don't know about running that tire size, but I will say those 295's are 11.6" wide, which is pretty wide for our 4Runners.

    True that me and you are completely opposite where I changed mine from 20 to 17..:D

    I think if you remove that OEM side steps it will look better? Automatic running boards would be the best on yours I bet.
    Those chrome wheels seem to match with the chrome on the limited..:cheers:

    So from a math perspective, what's the overall diameter of the wheel and tire? the overall width? I don't mean the wheel, I mean the wheel and tire. I assume tires like this don't stick out from the wheel, so it's probably just the specs of the wheel + 1/2" on each side for width, but don't know the overall diameter with knowing what size tire you'll get.

    And the offset with that backspace is uncommon, a normal one is like 4.75 I think. However, with +12 you'll be going in toward the vehicle from the starting point of 5.97 so that approximately 0.5" in making a backspace of approx 5.4". That should keep it off your upper control arm (UCA), depending on the width of the wheel and tire.

    Update, looked up 295/35r24 and they appear to be around 32.1" and about 11.6" wide. That's about 1" wider than OEM size, but half that since the radius is what you care about regarding how close you get to the UCA. I assume the backspace of the wheels will move it out enough.

    At this point my initial thoughts are, it probably will rub slightly at full lock especially in reverse, and minor trimming required. If it does, and annoys you, a 1.5" lift likely fixes it. I'd go spacer lift cause you'll not be offroading with that setup, and it's cheap, and other than a curb you're not gonna be stuffing that suspension I'd guess.

    Summary, I think it might rub with the 24x10. You may stand a better chance with 22x9. Expect minor rubbing and fixes, most are easy. A little trim, remove front mudflap. I don't think rear will have any issues at all at either size.

    Also, my tire experience is with offroad, so that might *not* translate perfectly to pavement vehicles, but I think it's close enough for this.

    I was going to originally go for 22" rims, since you have more options with the rubber size, and the ride will be a bit smoother than 24's, but then I saw the pic above. I agree that it'll be close with rubbing, especially at full lock in reverse with 24's. Common sense says stick with 20's...but 22's would look better....and to me, 24's would look AMAZING!! But, I'm not going to spend money on lifts, if it doesn't work.....and these rims are custom bored at the factory...so ONLY another 4runner owner could use them if I had to sell. So, I have to make the right decision before dropping a penny on these things.

    A spacer lift is like $300 -$400. That's all you need. That should fit in your budget.

    Safe is boring, go big.

    Here's to going all in on the lack of pretense! 99% of the 4R's around here never even go on dirt roads, let alone off road, and the drivers would be much better off with a Highlander.

    One other thing to pay attention to is with that positive offset bringing the inside of the wheel closer to the vehicle, there is this small little nubbin thing on your knuckle right at the perfect height to rub against your wheel/tire... ask me how I know it gets close. In the picture I attached its the little thing that sticks out right above where you see the steering tie rod end and the bottom of the UCA ball joint castle nut (not where the arrow is pointing this is the best I could find on google) [​IMG]

    Metal is heavier than rubber.

    You might get some weird inertia from those wheels when trying to turn it at high speed.

    I might be concerned about such a wide wheel with a positive offset rubbing on UCA's. I can't help you with any real experience, though.

    I would say keep doing your research and get the wheels you really want.

    I order 22X9 lexani for my 21 limited. I get them put on Tuesday we will find out then if I need to make any adjustments to eliminate rubbing or not.

    I thought briefly about it but he presented in an intelligent manner and didn't meet my threshold for destruction. Plus, like someone else said, there's no pretenses here... this truck is more legit for its actual use than any lifted mall crawler on MTs. Also...I actually kind of like the look.

    So I pulled the trigger, and got the Contra's instead of the Diablo's. For my black 4Runner, I think it's a better look. I also like the stance of how this truck looks. I did the exact set-up.

    What size tire you go with? I ordered 275/45/22. Which when the math is done I think is very close then to the radius size of the factory 20s with factory tires. So really just a matter of the off set keeps it from rubbing on the wider rim. I think yours will look sick can’t wait to get mine on Tuesday

    Since I'm stealing the look of the Runner in the photo, I asked the guy what he is running, and he put 285/45/22's. I ordered the same thing. He said that he has slight rubbing on the inner plastic cover/liner. I can always heat that up and manipulate it if need be.

    I should add, that I was going to order the 275, but they are like an EXTRA $60/tire.

    The 275/45/22 on 22X9 only barley rub in reverse. Have not heard any rubbing during driving other then reverse.

    I just wanted to add a couple of notes for you guys who are looking at maybe getting the same setup. I've tried to order these wheels online, and the company (of course) is saying that there will be issues (rubbing/modifications needed). The OEM rim with an equivalent tire (245-275) AND a 1.25" spacers is the same as the 10" aftermarket rim with a -18/19 offset as far as it's protrusion from the hub.

    This will sound ridiculous, but I did a test with some rigid foam (adding 2" of it) to the face of my stock tire/rim, and cranking the tire into the wheel well. It does rub, but only the plastic mud flaps. This is pretty much what the guy who has this set up told me. I'm going to go for 265/40/22 to minimize the rubbing even more, and trim/or remove the mud flaps.

    Thought I'd share. Going back to the tire place to order.

    Thought I'd update you on this rim fiasco. Because of these stimulus checks, and the Chinese not producing stuff at full steam, rims are difficult to get...for the 4Runner anyways! I've had many sleepless nights (believe it or not) trying to figure out offset, tire size, rubbing, etc.etc.etc. I'm down to Fuel Tritons 18x9 +1 offset, Nitto Grapplers 265/65/18, no lift, no spacers, just a stock limited. I wanted beefy looking tires, so I went with the Grapplers. I wish they had 255's. I know I'm going to get a bit of rubbing on the plastic. I ordered a Confed levelling spacer last week, just to cut down on the rake. Any ways, just thought I'd let you know what a freaking headache this has been. By the time everything is done....there will be snow on the ground! (inspiration image below)

    There was another post where a guy was talking major crap to someone trying to put the same styled wheels on. Thankfully this thread didn't turn into that. I'll never understand why people are so adamant about putting others down about their vehicles.

    So I picked up the rims yesterday, 3 hour round trip! Had them installed this morning. I'm happy, I like them, but I should have did the -12 offset.

    I have the 265/65r18 Nitto Ridge Grapplers, with the Fuel Triton 18x9 +1 offset 5.25 backspace. No rubbing (that I can tell/hear). The tires are 0.5" wider over-all because of the nobs.

    I think I could have gone to the -12 offset, with the slightest of rubbing at the fronts....but I'm happy with the look. The tires aren't noisey either, just a slight humming on the road due to the aggressive tread....but I LIKE it!

    The tires sit pretty close to the edge of the fenders, but the 4runner fenders really flare out at the top, so that -12 offset would have sit flush with the tops of the fenders nicely. The -12 offset would have poked the wheels out an extra 0.5".

    Even though these wheels weren't my first (2nd, 3rd or 4th choice), I think they turned out OK.
