Returning tires

So I did extensive reading and it seemed some people got lucky and had 275 70 17s that didn't rub whatsoever on stuck suspension. Based on that I literally drove my brand new 4runner from the dealer straight to America's tire for some wildpeaks I pre-ordered in that size, I should add I did put on oem pro wheels and they rub quite a bit like a mother even on flat ground.

I did research and I know I can trim/massage/move the fender up but I decided to go with 265 70 17 wildpeaks for a few reasons
-275 70 17s in wildpeaks only come c rated (6 ply)
-265 70 17 do come in e rated (10 ply) which i prefer
-according to the Falken website, the 265s are literally a half inch smaller and lord knows what I would do for half an inch extra...wait are we still talking about tires lol

I was actually very surprised how much 275 70 17s rubbed and I do plan to get them eventually later down the road but for now I don't want to modify the fender at all.

I read some guys had slight rubbing with 265 70 17s as well stock so hopefully I won't. Will keep everyone posted

Lastly a special shout out to America's tire, I've been a long time customer since they're service is top notch, I called them and they told me they would swap them out no problem

 

I think the rubbing is due to the wheel offset. I think tho PRO wheels have a lower offset than the other wheels. I actually had some rubbing on stock size tires with -6 offset wheels.

It's nice that those tire dealers let you test drive tires like that.

 

I have 285/75/17 on -12mm offset. They are a large 33 and I do have some rubbing myself. Not much and nothing hard to address but I enjoy them a lot and found them to be worth it for me. Glad to hear you got to return them and get what you wanted.

I have a BMC, some trimming made and more trimming coming. Took the 4Runner off-road today and put it in some major flex points and this was the worst I got and it was primarily plastics.

 

I was able to put the stock size at3ws on today (both sizes were made in Thailand for those who care) and they barely fit and almost rub as well!

 

You could have an alignment shop max out your caster for a little more clearance.

How do you like the Falkens?

 

I just got these on but all I ever ran are either k02s or wildpeaks. I did have p rated wildpeaks (as well as e rated). If you plan to do even very mild off roading, do not get the p rated, I went thru 2 brand new ones (sidewall got compromised)

Both do great, k02s are cheaper now believe it or not the reason I went wildpeaks this time is they handle snow better (ko2s are great on dry stuff but left a lot to be desired in the snow for me)

I have E rated MT's for summer/off-road use. My "winter" tires are currently Toyo AT3's in load range C.

I had C rated KO2's 2 sets ago, and thought they were just good, not great in snow. So far the best snow performance for me was a Yokohama Geolander AT on my previous 4Runner.

 

Almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Just sayin'. LOL! Sorry just couldn't resist.
