They know they fcked up bad. Going to honor the original deal when I pointed out exactly what state laws were "bent". Xpel (not hood, darn), rubber liners, hood protector (dumb looking bug shield), and blacked emblems are all going to be no charged.

In return I let Toyota and the State departments know they fixed their advertising practices and made it right.

    We'll see how tomorrow goes.

    20210619-093802-HDR_ff96e16c77eb8ea7815aa500620caebe80a2d672.jpg

    Step 1: Trade 2019 Tacoma for 2018 4R.
Step 2: A month later Trade 4R for new 4R

Paid ~2k + TTL at each step. End result: Drive over 2 years and 22k miles for free and pay the difference in MSRP between Taco and (final) 4R.

Edit: Now to decide whether to stop at step 2, or try for a Step 3 and go from SR5 Prem to Offroad Prem w/kdss for free.

Anyone think these prices will still be this high by next month?

Yes, prices will be high as long as there is demand which there is due to the so called chip shortage. Once the demand is no longer there, then the prices go down

Probably, but I'm not an economist. I hope things eventually cool off for all those people out there that are in need of a new or used car.

Not a 4Runner subject but the housing market is even more insane. Although it's fun to think about getting a half million dollars out of a house that is really only worth 150k, It's sad, especially for the younger generation that is trying to get out there and start a life.

With prices the way they are now, I don't think I'll ever be an empty nester.

The market will crash sooner than later. Look at the stock market which is always an indication. During covid you could pretty much blindly buy any stock and triple your money, the market is correcting itself now (some people might call it taking a dump). Recessions are cyclical and we are definitely on the cusp

Sold my 2018 TRD Off-Road KDSS to a dealer for $45k yesterday.
It had under 20k miles, 5100 lift, and TRD wheels.

Thanks for posting the video above. I agree with him. At some point the chip manufacturers will catch up with the current demand. But they can't expand in just 3-4 months. I'm guessing it will take till at least to the end of 2021. I don't think most people or auto manufacturers expected a "V" shaped recovery. But that's what we got. So, how long will this last ? A recession could throw a monkey wrench into the recovery. And the current administration in D.C. seems hell-bent on making that happen. I'm guessing mid-end of 2022. Hope I'm wrong.

But for now: There are 6 Toyota dealerships in my City. When you look at their lots, or check their inventory, there are plenty of Camrys, Corollas, Avalons, etc. But no trucks. LOL

I'm at the age where I should own a house already, but when I was younger it didn't really appeal to me. Also, as a single person, I always felt it was slightly out of reach. Shortly after I bought my 4R a few years ago, I came to my senses and decided to pay the 4R off as quickly as possible, then save a few years to get my ducks in a row to buy a house.

Prices had already been creeping up pretty high before all this madness, but now they are completely out of control and I fear I'm priced out of the market for good in my area. And that's not the town I live in, that has always been crazy, but even anything within an hour radius of my work is insane.

I was talking to a coworker today, her daughter had to give up a good job offer she had accepted out of state because she COULD NOT find any housing at all anywhere near the new job.

I've determined that for me, buying a house means moving completely out of the area to somewhere more affordable, that ALSO has decent jobs. If such a place exists anymore. Plan B is to save for a van/RV.

    Yep, it sucks,

That's what's happening here in Idaho, people in California are flocking to our state with cash in hand, outbidding, paying cash at well over the asking price.

The appraised value of my home has more than doubled in less than 6 years.

If my kids ever want to get out on their own, they will probably have to leave our state and they were born in Idaho.

I'd love to see the housing bubble burst wide open.

It's not right that people native to their state can no longer afford to stay!

We all make the best decisions we can at various stages of our lives. Some of us are blessed more than others also when growing up and advised on finances.

I remember watching my Dad buy a new car every 3-4 years growing up. But he drove 65 miles per day and worked for Ford and the cars were garbage big time back then more so.

At 47 I have only owned four cars since age 16 and in college I learned about saving from friends and professors and I learned from my Dads mistakes.

Don’t beat yourself up Trail Runnah or try to compare yourself to others. We are all dealt a different deck of cards in life and we do the best we can.

I was one of the savers early on which is great but I never found a wife or had kids. Some of us guys may joke how great that would be but life is always greener on the other side as they say. I’d trade it all to have a woman and family who love me.

So I just try to be thankful for what I have each day. A lot has changed this year economically not for the good and I don’t see it changing anytime soon. Our country has a different set of priorities at the moment so I would just try to keep saving. You’ll get there bud.

I didn’t think I would, but the right GX came long, and the dealer offered $4800 MORE than I paid for my ‘19 SR5P new. Having some extra cash to dump into the Mustang resto, no car payment, and a paid off GX is a good thing. Hopefully, it treats me as well as the 4Runner.

    Nice!

Called the dealer to check on my order update on the Pro. I asked how his lot is right now and they have the following ready to sell. 1 Sequoia, 1 Highlander and 1 Camry. Yikes.

It's so crazy, this is happening all over the country. I read an article recently about Idaho, I forget the name of the time, but it's a popular resort town. It's had it's affluent population for years, but with the current trends locals are being pushed/priced out at a crazy rate. Between wealthy folks with deep pockets buying everything up, and current owners forcing out renters in order to make their properties Air BnB's (Apparently Idaho had a passed a state law barring individual towns from regulating Air BnBs, because of course corporate interests >people). The regular folks who live there and keep the town running can't find housing, the story mentioned a nurse who lived in the woods for 9 MONTHS before finding housing, and the mayor had suggested letting residents live in tents in the town's park. The town had tried to build some affordable housing awhile back, but the rich people got that shut down.

Honestly it's really f#cking disgusting. I mean, good for you with your house value, but...jesus. Like you said, how's anyone supposed to compete with that?

Hey thanks man, I appreciate it.

I'm single with no kids as well. There's a certain freedom in that, but I get what you mean as well.

It's funny, when I grew up, just about everyone in my family owned a house. Parents, grandparents, aunts & uncles. All my friends lived in houses. I just thought that was how life went, you grew up and just got a house. I never really understood the work that went into that, or the saving and setting of financial priorities. I remember when I was 20 and wanted to buy a 20k car. My parents were like "might as well do it when you're young". 20 year old me thought it was a great idea, having a $400 car payment making 9 bucks an hour was perfectly acceptable. 40 year old me wants to scream " NO, NO, NO!!! " at 20 year old me. If only I had saved or invested that money.

Oh well, you can't change the past, only move forward and learn from mistakes. Like you said, everyone has a different hand to play, just gotta make the best of it.

I second what mac1usa said. We've all diff backgrounds, diff financial and life situations, etc. We all make due with what we have and can afford, and try to be happy with that. I made a shitton of financial mistakes when I was younger because nobody sat me down and told me 'start investing when your 18 and don't spend money on stupid sh!t like .....' etc. I didn't figure out things until my mid 30s. Way late to the financial savings game but I've made it work.
