Unfortunately the trend on almost every new vehicle built these days - a massive plastic painted bumper cover instead of a metal bumper.

You're right - once you've cut the stock bumper cover for an aftermarket offering, there's no going back if you don't like the end result...

I appreciate the link. I just went further down the rabbit hole and ordered the warn bumper without hoop. if this ends up working out, 645 bucks will be steal. Both in terms of money, but time as well. They told me it should be here next week!

Of course, this means a winch is next on deck, then a lift kit....

One thing I did notice on an install vid on youtube,?is that I can install a winch later without taking off the bumper, which is convenient. In the meantime, Ill have front recovery points, which is my main concern at this point in my off-road career

Once you pre-smash, scrape, or ding your bumper, it becomes a whole lot easier to start cutting things up :p:D

Thanks for the pics - that helps a lot.

I’ve seen the Rago hidden winch mount, but adding the hawse fairlead on top of the OR lower valance seems a little clunky.

Fortunately I’m in no rush so I have some time for more research.

Pinstripes, lots of em. Plus a couple dents.
I'd paint or wrap the lower valance black. Nice thing is lots of folks have spare lower valances around. If you decided to sell your 4Runner, you could take the winch and mount off and replace valances.

For this bumper cut, did you find a template somewhere?

2-1/2 years with my Warn bumper and Smittybuilt winch. Would do it all over again tomorrow!

Awesome. What winch did you go with? How does it feel driving with that extra weight? (This is the bumper I want as well!!)

Has anyone installed the Rago Fabrication Low Profile Bumper? I was looking today and it looks very much like the C4 Fab bumper and lead times are way, way shorter…

That’s a huge plus for the Warn bumper if you can add the winch later without uninstalling the whole bumper! I think most of the other ones would require removal, winch install, and then re-install bumper with winch on the truck. I think you’ve convinced me to go with the Warn also!

I ended up going w a winch right away because I did a Dobinsons suspension, and I wanted to get final weight on the front end before having it aligned.

The vid I saw makes installing a winch pretty easy as long as you take steps to protect the powder coat. Im sure installing winch with the bumper out is easier though, which is what I ended up doing.

I just intalled a low profile bumper and have the silver valance available if anyone needs to one.

In case you're still shopping around, I did not need to remove mine to install the winch. If this is a consideration for you, I would contact whichever fab shop you're looking at and ask them. I would expect that most of them would allow the winch to be installed without removing the bumper.

Just wanted to add my .02, ordered a Warn Bumper from Amazon on the 24th Dec and it arrived today. Box looks like h3ll, was taped at some point since staples ripped out. I was really shocked when seeing no damage and all parts accounted for. When I saw the box I thought for sure this would turn into a nightmare, but everything is good. Now to decide on a winch.
