Palm Beach Toyota - just bought a '21 MGM Pro from them today (May 30) for MSRP.

It just arrived on their lot yesterday, and a couple peeps looked at it but didn't buy it. So I went by early this morning and scooped it up.

Every Toyota dealer in San Diego County was asking between $5000-7500 over from November 2020 to April 21. Please, please, please do not pay that. I was able to get one dealer "down" to $1500 for a Lunar Gray but I was set on white. Many dealers wouldn't budge on the "addendum" and wanted to take off dealer add-ons only. I got mine in April from Toyota of Escondido for $2500 over MSRP, wife and I were just tired of waiting. Still hard to look myself in the mirror paying over sticker!

Which dealer was down to $1500 on the lunar rock? I have also considered a magnetic gray but they seem even harder to find than the lunar right now haha

Toyota Poway. It took a lot of back and forth to get to that point, but ultimately I didn’t love the Lunar Gray and they wouldn’t honor the same price for an inbound Super White.

They do on the pro $7.5k markup. I never said they marked up the SR5.

Did it has add ons or the aftermarket lift rims and tires? I’ve bought 6 vehicles there from the same guy and never a mark up. They advertise and are known for not having a markup. I have a 2021 SR5P on order now for msrp off Toyota’s website.

To be fair I haven’t seen any dealer mark up SR5’s at all. Only Pro’s, Trail and Off-roads.

If true, that's almost 20-Grand over MSRP !!! You have to want one really bad. Can't believe it.

Wonder what they are marking up for TRD/ORP's ? Sounds like the over-pricing has trickled down to the other trim levels.

I inquired about a purchase at Longo in SoCA. They would make me pay local tax despite being an out of state buyer/registration, unless I transported the truck myself off the lot. So I said no thanks. The sales tax rate there is 10% according to them.

bit surprising they’re doing that with tax since it’s supposed to be whatever rate your address is but yes, our tax in most of socal is a bit over 9%

I overpaid, but considering I'm in NorCal, I was happy I was able to get it lower than most markups, but still marked up nontheless. Didn't want to have to deal with getting one out of state. Got it at 58K for a TRDP LR. One dealer in the North Bay Area wanted 17k markup!

    Hi Everyone!

From SoCal in the Orange County/San Diego region.

I would recommend going to Toyota of Carlsbad and talking to Steven. He guided us throughout the process and was really up front with us about the cost. We pretty much negotiated the whole thing over the phone. We were a little hesitant because its about a 1 hour drive away (2 hours with traffic). We trusted our gut, and decided to head over there. We were greeted with such a friendly presence. The process was very smooth and he was willing to help and stay til 11pm to make sure we went home with a new 4Runner. Which we did, we came home with a new 2021 4Runner SR5 4x4 MGM. He even was able to help us get a markdown of about $2k under sticker.

I would avoid going to Toyota of HB/Irvine specifically. Pretty much most of the Toyota's in OC will subject you to a mark up and rude customer service when trying to understand the reason for it. I am not saying all. We visited mostly all of the Toyota's in our area and only couple of them were honest and provided "good/decent" customer service. We experienced really rude customer service when I was trying to buy my 2021 SR5 4x4. My inquiry goes for the SR5 4x4's. Not sure about any other trim or model.

Irvine laughed in our faces when we said we were going to keep our options open and keep looking around. At the time we weren't in a rush to buy it. I would avoid their sales people and managers as they can be condescending. English is my dad's second language and the sales manager spoke to him in such a rude tone when my dad was trying to explain what we were looking for. He kept interrupting and cutting my dad off when he was in the middle of trying to pronounce certain words. I even caught him smirking and chuckling as we were talking to him. Especially when my dad spoke. Their service department is good and treats us respectfully every time though.

HB needs to get their team aligned. We had a decent experience with the sales rep and the manager. They confirmed there would be no mark up and that we would be able to buy at MSRP with minor add ons like running boards/mats. We agreed to that because we wanted those. Towards the end of our negotiation, the finance manager comes running to the table telling his sales rep/manager to step to the side. He crossed out what the sales manager had written down for our negotiated final price and said nope you have to pay an additional $5k if you want to close this deal. I responded with that's not what your sales manager said and the sales manager said that he told us (my family) that we agreed on the MSRP + the minor add ons which we accepted. The finance manager rudely cut his own sales manager off and said no - if they want to buy today then they have to pay an additional $5k mark up and he told us that the sales manager had no right giving us that number and it was a false number. At this point, I said to the finance manager, "So, your own sales manager lied to us and gave us false information?" and the finance manager looked at me with hesitation and said, "Yes, that number is false and not correct. He should not have given you that number." So at that point, literally with 1 paper left to sign to close the deal, we got up and left.

I’ve always used Alex Ordonez. I’ve purchased 6 vehicles from him now and have a 2021 SR5P on order with him. They advertise no mark ups.

You must have money to burn, or be really desperate to be buying a new vehicle right now? besides the chip shortage, there is a total new/used shortages. My dealer offered to buy my wifes 2013 Honda, i's 8 years old and all beat up.
I bought my 4 runner last May during Covid 19 crisis and the dealer was empty, had to make an appointment, to get inside, but I got mine for $3,000 less than MSRP.
I would wait 1 or 2 years and just keep driving what you got.

Inflation is real and the shortage will carry on to next year since the demand can't be met. 2023 is still on track to be the first year of the 6th gen.
