Next best option to Wildpeak's and KO2's now that the Wildpeak's are made in China?

Oh, yeah. There are so many people who don't understand that. "Hypermilers" will also run maximum inflation to squeeze out another .2 MPG as well. Aside from the money lost replacing prematurely worn tires, over-inflated tires aren't getting proper traction, either. It doesn't seem worth it to me.

You're probably about right.
Just went out and looked at the Falken Wildpeaks on my 3rd gen. Got them about 6 months ago and all 4 say made in China. Hopefully, I'm just lucky. They have run smooth at all speeds. Beyond that, there are only a couple weights added, and stangely, only on the driver side. ( head scratcher ).
I bought them at Discount Tire.
I have General Grabber HTS's on my 5th gen which it came with. They are like new, so I will stay with that highway tread for quite a while. Any rough stuff, I will navigate with my '98.

 

Well, you got me thinking...I checked, and the ones on my 4R were made in Thailand.

 

So the question now is, does one refuse to buy any Falken tires, simply because Falken is having some of them made in China, or just refuse to buy the Falken tires that are made in China...?

 

Since there's no way of knowing what's being made in China now I'm not going to be purchasing any Falken tires.

It is, however, I don't have any tire stores around me that would actually carry these tires so I'd have to order them. I'm not willing to take the chance of being stuck with made in China tires.

 

My set made in mid 2020 are made in Thailand

 

I don't see a problem with specifying you want the ones made in the US. If the tire shop can't accommodate that when you're placing the order, then you don't have to buy them.

 

I think you are overestimating the tire shops ability to actually be able to specify what they are sent by their distributor or that tires aren't mixed together since they are "the same tire" at the distributor so you might get 2 US made and 2 China made tires.

 

Love to see if any one have Made in USA Falken Wildpeaks?
I've had 2 sets (275/55R20 & 285/70R17) both were made in Thailand.

 

I, personally, would not hesitate to buy another set.

 

That's your choice. I just won't buy Chinese made tires for a passenger vehicle.

But what's the harm in telling them you want the made in the US ones?

If they can't deliver, you don't pay for them.

These look promising although I don't see the 3PMSF rating. Anyone have firsthand experience using one with 3PMSF vs one without in relatively same conditions? Just curious, thanks!

General Grabber ATX is 3PMSF. I run them and have been very happy with them.

 

Hate to be that guy but if Falkens are made in China, they are officially off my radar. Too many other good choices out there for my taste.

 

I sent them an email and told them that I was 100% committed to a set of AT3W's until I found out they moved production to China, however, since they did that I will be buying another brand of tire instead.

The only way to effect change is by hurting their bottom line. I realize my single set of tires doesn't really matter to them but if a few thousand people followed suit then they may start to notice.

There are just too many other options out there for me to consider a tire that is made in China.

I mean, we all drive in cars where some of the parts are made made in China. To each their own...I've had great luck with Falken and wouldn't hesitate to purchase them again, regardless of their manufacturing origin.

Agree with you 100%, I changed the Chinese tires on my travel trailer the 1st week after i bought it. To many stories about the Chinese ones failing, not a risk I'm willing to take either.

I went with the General grabber ATX for my T4R and i really like them so far.

TL;DR

The United States and China are on less-than-friendly terms at the moment, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at the smartphone market. Canalys estimated that China-made devices represented 70% of smartphones shipped to the US in the second quarter of 2020, a sharp jump from 60% the quarter before.

Apple was one of the clear winners, with shipments jumping 10% versus a year earlier. Other brands also fared well, though. Motorola (that is, Lenovo) saw its own shipments climb 8% in the Spring. Additionally, relatively tiny low-cost brands such as Unimax and Wiko also thrived.

 

KO2s have always been garbage.

I've found Toyo's and Cooper's to be more consistent in being truly round and needing as few weights as possible.

Falken's are hit or miss but I've had good experience with my Wildpeaks.

They have some weaknesses, but this statement is plain silly.

I know plenty of people who have had great luck with them. I don't think there are many tires that can beat them for longevity and all around performance.

I had a set for 29K miles and 0 complaints. They're on a friend's Ranger now and still just fine.
