95 3vze no spark

    Just basic maintenance
    So my truck recently stopped starting. The day before it quit It had started driving pretty rough shaking in first gear and having a hard time climbing hills but it was running the next day I got in tried to start it with no luck I pulled a spark plugs to test for spark and got nothing I took off the distributor cap and inspected it, it seemed to be fine I replaced my ignition coil but still no spark just wondering where I should look next I know it has an igniter or it could be my ECU but I much rather not play a guessing game I ordered a new distributor to see if that may be it. Any advice on why It just quit?

    There’s a good fsm link in this thread https://www.4runners.com/threads/help-yea-already.20704/. There’s a good flow chart for diagnosing the ignition system. If it was me me I would check the connector going to the coil and see if you’re getting power with a test light, if no power, then I would see if I get power to the igniter. Just hook up a test light to ground and poke around the terminals and see if it lights up. Obviously leave the ignition in the on position. If the connector going to the igniter has power, but there’s no power going to the coil, then it’s probably a bad igniter.

    Thanks for the info I bought me a continuity tester gonna try it out. Also I started having some issues after I rebuilt my power steering pump it was leaking so I changed all the seals when I did that I started getting overdrive off code 63 It would flash every so often then it would stop I thought it was from moisture because it was raining all week but now I'm starting to think it was my ground I looked it up and there is a ground under the powersteering pump by the ac compressor could it be that I knocked that ground loose or got some fluid on it that's causing it to have no spark?

    I was having a similar problem, I replaced the guts in my original distributor and the issue disappeared. My 1990 would randomly loose spark and refuse to start. Then 5-10-15 minutes later it would fire right up.

    There is a way to test the ignitor. I had an '87 MR2 with a bad ignitor, and was able to diagnose it and found one in a salvage yard. I believe the testing process was found in a Haynes manual.

    So I got the new distributor on there and she fired up. Went to check all my fluids cause it had a funky smell and found I have coolant in my oil. Now I'm stuck with if I should fix it or just sell it I've gotten as far down as taking off the lower intake but I'm not sure if I want to get into changing the head gasket is there anything special Id have to do I've heard when changing the head gaskets you have to get the heads shaved
