Factory Orders stopped

There's a huge container ship backlog at some west coast ports right now. Not sure if it's hitting the east coast too.

That could definitely be the cause for some of the delay.

One estimate was saying things are so backlogged that they won't be caught up until August.

Just got a call this afternoon from my dealership and my order is placed! Woohoo!

Scheduled for production start Jun 16 and delivery should be 4-6 weeks later, so mid-July to early August.

Honestly I was fully convinced I had missed out on a 2021 and was going to have to wait until the 2022 books opened, and who knows when that will be.

 

When did you put in your order with the dealer?

 

We struck the deal and I put my deposit down May 15th.

 

I got 42,500 for my SR5 Premium. The original sticker was less than that, and I only paid 37 for it. I figured it, they paid me $400 a month to drive it while I had it.

 

Kinda pissed that I brought my Taco over from Hawaii and thought it’d be a better idea to rent a car when I fly out there.

 

What really pains me is I put off ordering since January when my car died due to other financial obligations. I have my beater Tacoma so it wasn’t a biggie but now I wish I had ordered in January. Oh well. I just saw a 2019 TRD PRO with 24k miles going for $60,000.

 

My 2018 ORP with 51,000 miles got totaled(bent frame). Paid 38k new. Insurance company offered 33k. Did my research and went to battle. It took some time and work and settled on 44k. Nice to drive a vehicle 51,000 miles over 3.5 years and get 6k more than I paid. Put it towards a 21 LR Pro. Had to pay 3k over MSRP. The 4Runner market is on fire right now.

 

I'd say you came up on the insurance payout. Just wondering how long did the back and forward go with the insurance before they settled on 44k?

 

Took about 10 hours of research and creating spreadsheets. I used their ridiculous methodology to value some vehicles and then got realistic.Took almost 4 weeks.

Sold my 16 Trails last month for more than I paid last winter. Just got my confirmation and VIN for my 2021 OR Premium with KDSS in Nautical Blue. Delivery date to dealership is mid July to AUG 1. We’ll see. Paid MSRP for the first time in my life but they are selling for 10k over asking along the entire front range of the Rockies so I’m stoked.

 

Almost exactly what I ordered! mine is not a premium though -

I got it for MSRP -$500. Delivery mid to late July.

Well Toyota Carlsbad let me order my SR5 Premium 4x4 on June 4th, last Friday. So I hope my order actually got in. They were saying no more because the dealership itself was scared they wouldn’t be able to fulfill the orders but my salesman had his boss make an exception for me since I’ve purchased 6 cars from him.

 

Checked my semi-local dealerships in CA for 2021. Very few 4Runners in stock.

I will be interested to see the final sales numbers for 4runners 2021. The dealer lots around me all look full but when you look closer there are only Rav4 and sedans, no 4runners or 4x4 Tacos. No used 5th gens on the lots around me. I wonder how much this shortage has affected the sales of these vehicles. It seems like it varies from state to state, if someone was really determined they could go to somewhere with lower demand.

 

This is what we did. We ordered an ORP from the dealer by my girlfriend’s folks’ place in North Dakota. When it arrives in late July, we’ll fly up to see the family and grab the truck. Couldn’t get KDSS in my region, and none of the local dealers were willing to talk around msrp. My first offer from ND was $2k below. It’s not ideal for everyone, but it’s worth the trip to me to get the exact vehicle I want for a good deal in this particular market. Build date estimated June 16th!!

 

Ordered and put a deposit on a 2021 SR5-P last month. Was informed it was being built June 8 (dealership actually called to see if I had any last minute changes on the 6th). Supposed to be in by mid-late July. This thread is giving me anxiety.

 

I wouldn’t stress about it. I called my guy after seeing this thread and he said he hasn’t heard anything and my order is in.

 

If yours was produced June 8th they should be able to confirm it was built by now and when it will leave Japan. My dealer confirmed two days after my build (due to time zone difference) it was built. At that time it seem like most of the freighters left Japan on a Saturday headed for USA.

I ordered my ORP in April and it arrived 2 weeks earlier than planned in May. My dealer managed to snag me one that was already in production.

 

Received confirmation that it’s actually on its way to NY and should be ready for pick up in Boston by July 8.

 

Ordered my LR Pro on 5/15
Build date of 6/5
Boat supposed to land in Portland 6/22
Train to Chicago and then truck down to the dealer.

Thinking maybe first or second week of July?

Hopefully trade values stay strong for my GX unless I unload it to Carvana or something beforehand.

 

I’m almost certain I’m selling mine to Carmax once the arrival for my new one is confirmed. While my dealer gave me an excellent trade in quote, Carmax is offering $1500 more, which I’ll use for new rims and the rest for my down payment. I also read that cash down can get a better (not by much) interest rate. Either way this price influx on used 4Runners has put me in a pretty good position and won’t increase my payments at all. Actually they’re going to be less!

 

You have to factor in tax as well. Just have to do the math to see if the lower trade value + tax benefit outweighs selling outright.

I bought my 2017 GX CPO with 11k miles for $41k about 2.5 years ago I think. I have close to 38k miles now and it's paid off. If I could get $38k+ for it I would be very happy but my gut is it will be around $35-36k.

 

Our 2021 TRD Venture 4x4 Nautical Blue Metallic will be arriving at the dealership on June 24th. I am having the dealer upgrade the stock tires to Goodyear DuraTrac for the heavy snow that we have to deal with in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I was following the vehicle transport ship, the New Century 2, since it left port in Japan back in May and arrived in Jacksonville, FL on the 15.

 

Update:

Got confirmation production was completed Jun 16, has left the factory for shipping departure expected 6/23 and arrival at destination port 7/6. After that rail and truck.

Still expecting mid to late July at the dealership, consistent with original estimate.

 

Well, I’m raising my insurance to 12k then.

 

They give me 15k for it I will let it sink at the boat ramp.

 

For those of you that placed orders is a refundable deposit the norm? I have one dealership offer to place a “preference order” on a 21 LR PRO for a $500 deposit but said it could take anywhere from 4-6 months for delivery. They are willing to sell at MSRP but state that it could have additional add ons from what I requested. This doesn’t seem right to me as the 2022 4Runners are just around the corner and I’m sure production on 21’s wont be for much longer.

Anyone with experience that can tell me if they’re just trying to get me to place a deposit?
