Reading the forum, it looks like the TRD CAI requires the sensor harness to be elongated so its not a direct fit. Some modding required.

Its a direct fit at least on my 2018. All you have to do is untape the harness to separate the 2 wire plug. Then retape.

That is honestly the hardest part.

Yes a very very easy task for the 2019 and 2020 <---- I am only saying these 2 years because I have not done it on any of the other year 4Runners myself, I did mine first a 2020 TRD Pro then I did a Coworker's 2019 TRD Off Road and had to do the exact same thing on both.
Basically you just carefully open up the wire harness that the MAP sensor wires are in (it is just electrical tape) pull the wires back in the harness 5 inches so instead of coming out of the end of the combined harness you come out of the side 5 inches back then with good quality electrical tape close everything back up and just add some 3/8 inch high temperature split loom material (see picture) and now the plug will reach the new location just fine.

If you could actually prove it increased your mpg, it will take 3+ years to pay for itself. But you do you boo

I bought the TRD intake & a TRD oil cap when they had the 25% off sale in '19. We also couldn't justify a Pro. It is all personal preference. :drunk:
We also spent $5k+ on Xpel wrap. We all do us! That is the point.

Also, no engine cover cuts weight so that is about 15hp there! Lol

I installed the TRD Air intake on my 2018 TRD Pro Tacoma and on my 2007 Tundra besides the 2020 Trd Pro 4runner before that I did it on my 2007 FJ Cruiser and 2000 Tacoma Trd Off Road, I used Fuelly program for the 2018 Pro Tacoma and the Tundra before and after as for MPG increase it did show a bit do I contribute that all to the TRD Air intake? No I do not directly do so It is more for me I became more aware of the engine performance due to being able to hear and Feel how it is running and I actually lost some MPG because I liked how the Tundra Sounded when gitting it on the pedal ..:burnrubber:

Nope, i run a paper filter, but when i used to run "oiled" filters like K&N (on more performance based vics) i always had two. One in the car, the other cleaned and oiled on the shelf. This way the excess oil drips off before install.

Being from a colder climate, this really doesn’t prove anything. Mpg typically goes up as the months go on.

Quit trying to justify a modification with unfounded statements about it increasing your MPG.

I’m not going to say it again; I don’t give a shit what people spend their money on, but when someone is asking for feedback on possibly purchasing something, don’t feed them bullshit.

I’m not trying to claim my snorkel makes my 4Runner into a submarine.

    LMAO!

Personal experience does not equate factual data. You’ve proved you don’t know what you’re talking about with your silly arguments.

I believe, only facts can tell the story; testing is needed; gasoline consumption and Hp. Regarding looks & sound is a personal thing.

I had a cold air intake on my hummer H2 SUT and I liked the sound.

When done with exhaust modifications the two can exceed the computers ability to supply a proper fuel/air mixture(lean on fuel). This is true of just about any bike. Unless a person adds a fuel controller - the best option is one or the other, but not both.

If you have oil dripping off a K&N you have excessively over oiled it. That's also what leads to MAF issues with the sensor getting coated.

The OP has 3 posts. If we degenerate with a simple filter question. Why would people want to come & ask more?
We will cease to be a group forum for learning & appear to be a bunch of trolls. This is not a good look. I understand that we all have opinions but almost 60 posts on something that we have beaten to death in threads past.
Just post a link to another "CAI" thread & allow them to make a decision.
Sorry to sound like a wet blanket but this is getting silly.
    Ryan.

Are you using the paper filter in a TRD intake?

Oh, nice. Thank you. Edit: Found a thread and saw photos. Several wires in harness, just need a couple/three separated to move. Gotcha. Thanks!

Awesome. I think I might have to get one now, thank you. Ahh saw photos now. Now I get it. This is awesome. Thank you!

Be sure to get a small plug. There is a small hole in the side of the new airbox. People talk about a whistling noise.. IMG_3732.HEIC.jpg

The "small hole" is for the clean filter indicator in the top left.

I’m a little late to this but, project farm did some pretty good objective test on these filters. Per his results, K&N provide better air intake at the cost of PPM.

There are/can be benefits but, there are too many variables from one driver to the next.

This is such a long ongoing topic… cheers y’all
