    Hi
I just got my first 4Runner. I’m not experienced with lifting or tires or anything like that. I have stock tires but would like to lift the truck a little. Any recommendations? I don’t do off roading so it’s just for looks. Also was wondering if anyone’s had a mechanic install their parts for them because I don’t know how but I know it’s cheaper to buy the parts yourself.

Toytec 2.5" front, 1.5" rear. This is probably the most common and sets the truck in a nice level, more aggressive looking stance.

You're going to want bigger tires though because the stock 265s will look wrong with a lift.

Ok. What size wheels would you recommend with those spacers? Do I need to buy coils as well or just the spacers? I appreciate your help

You don't need coils with a spacer lift. If you're happy with the stock ride quality, it's the most economical solution.

For wheels, I prefer 17's. If you prefer a bigger wheel, I would stick to 18" or 20" tops. Don't go too wide, 8-9" wide is ideal. Stay close to 0 offset for the best chance at not rubbing.

Tires, not wheels. Although even that is your preference, I just think the stock tires looks small with a lift. The most common tires-after-2.5" lift are 285s (33" tires).

The spacer kit comes with what you need... essentially 4 spacers. One for each coil / coilover. You use all parts of your existing suspension and you don't "replace" anything, you just are adding spacers to the existing assembly.

This is my former 2014 TE with the described Toytec kit and 285s:

I didn't even consider the possibility that was what @gagnon18 meant. In that case, I would agree to go 285/70/17 or 275/70/17.

Well he was quoting me and my post mentioned "tires" so I just figured he was lumping "tires" and "wheels" together

    Like the way yall think

Nothing wrong with just wanting a nice look

1.25" wheel spacers with OE wheels
    275/70's will work fine imo
    Dont forget positive caster

If you don't go off-road I think a spacer lift like ReadyLift which Toyota dealerships use would be a safe bet. I really like the ride comfort (I prefer soft suspension).

I also like BIlstien 5100. They are slightly firm than ReadyLift kit that uses stock shocks.

I have also like expensive & complicated suspension like ELKA 2.5 remote res adjustable suspension which are not needed for non-offroad.

275/70r17 does not have much tire options right? I don't see any SL rated tires. The softest I see is Falken Wildpeak Load C. Rest seem to be Load E which will be worst in comfort.

This is the downside of that size. It's too bad because it seems to be a great size at stock height or with a smaller lift. It almost makes more sense to go 285 in SL and clear any rubbing.

If you ask me spacer lift is not good for a dd. Unless you like stiff suspension.

I wish I have my SR5 with space lift to test back to back but on top of my head my SR5 with spacer lift was fraction softer than TRD Pro Fox suspension on road. But if I go over a speed bump little faster TRD Pro Fox absorb it better.

So I wanted to ask a question here and sorry if I'm hijacking this thread, but I've lifted a lot of vehicles and there's always talk about when you use a spacer lift (level kit) or whatever you want to call it, it increased the angle of your CV joints on the front. I don't seem to see a lot of talk about that. I know on my Silverado 2 inch was ok but anything higher than that you really put stress on those joints. Is there something I'm missing on the 4runner?

CV angles are affected by a suspension lift as well. Above a certain height, some will add a front differential drop. I have a little less than 2.5" up front and my angles are good.

It's definitely something to take into consideration. Also another benefit to a modest lift.

I've had both. Will never use a spacer lift ever again. Its not comfortable at all and if anyone tells you it is they are just fooling themselves.

Now I'm not saying buy a $3k+ suspension. But don't just stick a hockey puck under there and call it a day.

OP...this is my 4Runner with 2.5" lift in the front and 1" lift in the rear. These tires are 265/70/17 (stock size) on a more aggressive offset wheel than stock. Many say 265's look small with a lift...I disagree. A more aggressive tire on a more aggressive wheel makes a big difference in the appearance...

Yes suspension is a pile better although a one ☝️ much spacer probably isn’t a huge deal.

Mine got ReadyLift kit 3in front & 2in rear with 265/70/17 (stock size) KO2 Load C.
265s doesn't look bad but 285s are best looking imo.

It should ride exactly like stock. If someone is satisfied with the stock suspension, they should be fine with a spacer lift.

IMO your lift is too high for 265's and I dislike the stock SR5 wheels no matter what tire you put on them.

That's one of the nice things about 4Runners...lots of different options for modding them

Lie to myself? Why would I care?

You're literally putting spacers on top of the struts and springs. How could it ride any different?
