Your pictures make me very jealous. I wish we had somewhere to go in corn land. We need a vacation. Our 10 yr anniversary is this year so we are planning a trip to Colorado! I cannot wait to get the 4Runner there! Last visit was pre 4Runner in a sedan which meant only hiking.
Congratulations on your location and ability to get out,
    Ryan

You mean snakes? Saw a beautiful California King on the way out this am. We were scoping a line in one of the more
technical spots and he crossed the trail and headed into the bushes. Didn’t get a photo unfortunately.

Memorial Day was a lucky one for me finally. Got several walleye which was a blast. Luckily the weather cooperated in downtown Detroit

I've been wanting to run Medano pass for a long time and then spend some time at the dunes. I hear there is a bit of sand that you should be prepared for. Anything crazy?

Nothing crazy. I didn't air down and it was raining pretty heavy and had zero issues. Hit it with a little speed and already in 4x and you are gold. Just don't hit the water crossings very fast, there were a few Jeep Cherokee's and Honda Pilots that were stranded.

On my way home tonight right on the Idaho/Washington border. Saw a nice sunset and had just washed the 4Runner in town, so figured it would make for a good glamour shot.

WE were very surprised at the colors. I had only seen that kind of blue water in the Caribbean.

Yes, the deep blue sky at high elevation deserts is lovely. Less air molecules and less pollution particles means less scattering of light. More of the basic black of the sky comes through and our eyes see a darker blue.
Here’s a shot at Grand Staircase - Escalante NM in Utah, 5000 ft elevation.

Ahhhh, now I get it! I was thinking of the photo scene.
I had to look this up about the blue Potash Ponds. That potash brine is artificially dyed blue to absorb sunlight to heat up and dry faster.

Check out the photos at this link. They’re incredible.
