Have 400 kilomters on my 2021 TRD ORP and I can confidently say while the smooth ride of the stock Duelers is nice I know for sure I want to get into an all terrain sooner rather than later.

On my previous truck, a 2017 Tacoma TRD Sport I ran KO2s year round. I really liked how they looked (super aggressive but also classic and white letters are always a plus) but I was appalled by how much they slipped in rain or wet conditions.

I won't rule out KO2s but they are not the obvious choice I once though they were.

The other option I am look at at the moment at Falken Wildpeaks A/T3W. They look really nice and aggressive and are apparently great in slow and lush as well. They are substantially cheaper than KO2s as well and from what I hear they last forever.

What is the prevailing option here? I am keeping everything from wheel to suspension stock, so I want the optimal look and performance year-around with the stock TRD ORP configuration. Open to other tires too of course, please share pictures of yours wrapping the TRD OR wheels!

Look for something rated with the 3 peak mountain snowflake. Falken Wildpeaks, Toyo OC AT3's, and Yokohama Geolandars get good reviews. I doubt any AT tire will perform as well be as a true snow tire, especially on ice, so it may be a compromise situation.

I have both Falken Wildpeaks and KO2s in 285/70r17. Both have 3peak mountain snow flake rating. I think Falken Wildpeaks are cheap because it's made in Thailand vs KO2 are made in USA.
I have SL load in my wildpeaks which will not be strong as my Load C KO2s.

    Update -

09:27 - Question #1: Is it possible to buy mud-terrain tires suitable for winter weather driving?

Thanks for the feedback guys. Yes I am fully aware that dedicated winter tires would be best but for various reasons (sotrage, hassle, cost, and frankly having 4WD) takes me to where I don't feel I need them.

I want to get all terrains anyway for aesthetic purposes, but want to get the best possible winter performance as I can. Mud terrains are definitely out.

Thanks, any thoughts on while tires you prefer? I have experience with KO2s on my 4x4 Tacoma. Snow performance was decent (with 4WD engaged it was like a knife through butter, in RWD it was not bad). It's mostly the driving in rain/wet roads that give me pause on KO2s.

I love KO2 for its off-road performance and a good balance on road comfort.
I love Wildpeaks for its road comfort.
I could not feel a difference between the 2 for on road snow performance. I haven't had a chance to test on ice. Since Wildpeaks have really soft rubber it might perform slightly better, but not sure since not tested.
Pick between the 2 I pick KO2 and that's what on our trips / touring 4runner.

I also want to try Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac as many here in CO love them including my neighbor. If they have Load C option I would love to have them. But since they only have Load D and Load E which I'm concerned about comfort. I had KO2 with Load E and my wife hated it on long road trips. Will never get Load E again.

Do you give any advantage to one or the other in the rain?

We get very less rain here in CO so I may not be the right person to tell about rain. I don't remember driving in good amount of water on road with Wildpeaks.

I ran Michellin ATX AT2's on my Tacoma and now my Sequoia and I think they're great for all season. They last a long time too.

Pinstripes, lots of em. Plus a couple dents.
My Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws were great in the rain.

I ran KO2s and they were trash in the snow. I bought AT3Ws for my wife 4runner and she never slipped, even in over a foot of snow. I installed AT3Ws on my GX the very next week.

I also ran Duratracs on my previous truck and they also kicked ass in the snow. My choice would be either Duratracs or AT3W.

I second this. I’ve had mine for over 30,000 miles and hardly any wear. They work great on wet pavement and in sand, dirt, and moderate rocks. Not a rock crawler though.

I have heard great things about Wildpeaks as an all around tire. A few sets have had balancing issues, but this seems uncommon.

I ran Yokohama Geolander AT's on my previous 4Runner and they were excellent in snow and pretty much everything else.

I was happy with a set of KO2's as well but they weren't as good as the Yokohamas in the snow.

I think someone was asking for pictures of my Michelin LTX A/T2's on my Sequoia.

Certainly not a hard core rock crawler tire, but for everyday use, hard to beat. My Sequoia chews through tires, but these go about 55,000 miles which is awesome.

On my 97 Tacoma I got almost 100k miles out of them. They actually dry rotted before the tread wore out.

Obviously vehicle weight makes a difference.

    Here ya go.
