5th gen 4Runners in scenic locations

Went to a great spot hiking in Mt. Diablo. Made for a great back drop for Frankie.

Got in some offgrid camping at the river campsites above Monanche Meadows.



No mosquitos, not too crowded yet. Its time to get out and about.

Beach weekend.

 

Drove into the Idaho woods to go find some ground squirrel colony I came across hiking 3 years ago. Brought my 10/22 rifle this time.

You know you're deep in the woods when your Nav doesn't recognize the road you're on and just gives you coordinates...



Beautiful day in the 60's...



Right around this corner, I spotted a wolf. Just barely caught a glimpse of it as it immediately leaped into the woods off the road...



I jumped out and ran to the edge of the road, but it was long gone. Found the tracks it made when it leaped into the trees, with my Glock G29 10mm for size comparison. It was a big wolf...



There apparently was a pack there since I found multiple super fresh scat droppings, but I only saw the one.

Was a great day in the woods and hoped to make it over the summit, but there was still snow, and I don't drive in the heavy, dense, shady area snow in the Spring. It will suck you in and is like concrete.

 

Does your GPS not show you a dotted line of where you have gone? In case you are lost & need to find "camp"? Ours does. That is odd.

It's probably a setting. I rarely ever use the nav system since most places I go aren't shown, and I grew up in the area and know most roads. But today, I did bring it up when I got confused about which road I wanted. It did help me avoid one wrong turn.

 

I think you can turn it off, like on Garmins etc. Although as I think about it I'm not 100% that the factory nav does tracking. I never have used it if it does.

 

Our '19 gives tracking. Went to a buddies house (out of range) & it left dots where we had been.

Ah there it is. Handy only when you are planning on getting lost in the woods IMO! Nice to be able to look at a crossroads and determine that you have, in fact, been there before and 'back' is "that way"!

Your pictures make me very jealous. I wish we had somewhere to go in corn land. We need a vacation. Our 10 yr anniversary is this year so we are planning a trip to Colorado! I cannot wait to get the 4Runner there! Last visit was pre 4Runner in a sedan which meant only hiking.
