Thinking hard about picking this 4runner up. He is asking top dollar for it, but it is a fresh build.

He's asking $25,400 and seems firm on price. I'm thinking to offer $22,500

    2006 Toyota 4Runner Limited
4.7 L, 157k miles; Car fax has good maintenance records.

    New Parts installed by dealer:

    New ARB Expedition Winch Bumper
    New 9500 waterproof winch
    2.5" Dobinsons Lift
    Front Axle Diff Drop
    NEW BFG KM3's
    NEW Fuel Racing Wheels
    NEW Dobinsons Awning
    NEW ARB Roof Rack

Is this too much for a 06 with 157 k miles? Any advice is appreciated

Seems firm on the price.....yet you want to move him off that number by 3K? Best you can do is make your offer and go from there. If, you want it?

    lol...thanks for the insight, Moon.

It's a little above what I'm looking to spend, but I can swing it. I guess my question is, does his asking price seem fair?

Honestly, I have no idea what its value is.

CarGurus and AutoTrader - search for year, model and manually screen for some of the options you see on this one. Compare. I think thats the best way to gauge whether this vehicle is in a "ballpark" for price. You might also price out some of the big options and add that to the prices of some of the comparison vehicles and maybe narrow the "ballpark" further.

Of course, "value" is in the eye of the beholder and we can't "value" this vehicle for you. But if you do some searching to get a baseline ballpark price range and then add in the value of the options...you'll have a better idea if it's "worth" considering further.

Just my opinion but that seems high to me. I can't see 20 grand for any 4th gen unless it's one of those unicorns everyone is always dreaming about. Or a "barn find" in mint condition with almost no miles. If I was gonna drop over 20K on another 4runner it would be a 5th gen. Again, that's just my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback. I did a cost analysis like Beaver said, and I was getting around $21k with the parts, but that didn't include labor. I called and asked if he could go lower, and he didn't budge. So, I guess I'm going to pass. Considered selling my '89 p/up 4x4 to make this easier, but I think I'll regret letting her go.

Smart. Let it steep for a while. If he doesn't move it he may come around.

22k seems more than fair. 25? hard to say...I can appreciate all the hard work..and upgrades..and how nice the body is....but it is an 'older' vehicle....the seller might take your offer...he might decide to sit on it...and see if he gets HIS asking price...on the flip, you can continue to search for another one..within your price range

    Doable as is
I would pay the value of the vehicle as if it were stock. Essentially, I would not include the value of the upgrades in the offer. Best of luck!

Someone with an actual equivalent weighing in here... For reference, bought my '05 V8 with King adjustables all around, only mod the guy did, in Sep 2019 for $18k with 92000 miles. Was that fair price per KBB at the time? Eh, probably not really. However it was in impeccable condition, was exactly what I wanted, and had Kings to begin with which I would have done anyway, so I was comfortable with sort of fronting the dude some of the cost of the parts/labor there. Now I've done everything else in my signature, and more, to the tune of.. too much $$$ lol. But was it all worth it? Abso-effin-lutely. But thats me.

To your question, the actual stock worth of that thing is probably a good $10-14k less than that dude is asking. So then the question comes down to your preferences, do you want to buy a turn key vehicle with these mods installed to save you the time and labor to do it later yourself/with a shop? Or do you want to pass on this and hope another similar vehicle comes around with no mods so you can build it out yourself? Only you can answer that

If this is the rig you want then put in your offer. 22k isn't crazy off but I would look around and if this one is still the one you want, I say go for it!

Carmax has all the T4R’s you want for that kinda cash. Screw that.

He should've taken your $22.5k offer and run. Maybe he should hit up Carmax or Carvana...they're willing to fork over more than these trucks are worth lately...

Have it checked out by good mechanic with good scan tool. Look for frame rust.
