    Hello world,

Used the search and Looked at old threads and websites multiple times but can’t wrap my head on the calculations to know what measurements I can run.

Just bought a new 2021 TRD OFP. Also got my hands on some 17 x 9 -38 wheels.

Looking to swap the wheels out ASAP but can’t lift and not looking to do much mods just yet. Will be going on dirt roads but not much aggressive off-roading this year.

It was hard finding out what size tires I can run with these wheels as everyone that upgrades wheels or tires or both end up doing some kind of trim/bmc or lift kit or both.

Questions is if I can try run these wheels with this stock 4Runner? and what size tires can I run without modding the truck? regardless if they are bigger or smaller for now.

Thank you in advance and for taking a look.

Highly doubt you can run -38mm offset without any bad rubbing issues. You can have your tire shop test fit one and then decide.
Its a wide wheel for a 4runner though, I don’t see it fitting without any medications needed but that’s just my opinion.

Even with stock size tires, you're going to rub on the mudflaps. You may rub the fender as well.

I see now said the blind man. Thank you guys for the comments. What made me actually visualize what you guys and every other post was saying is pictures. I ended up talking to a buddy and looked up BMC pictures that had a view of tire/mount/fender and chopping area.

I stated that essentially to my understanding is that negative offset is basically spacers/spacing. So correct me if i'm totally wrong but i was like if i put a spacer on stock wheels it'd be the same thing. But then I put it together and realized that instead of 17 x 7 (stock i think) vs 17 x 9, 17 x 9 would make the back of the tire angle wider making it hit the fender/mount regardless of tire size i.e smaller tire.

If all that makes sense and is true then IDK why it took me forever to understand but thank you.

Seems like you’re on the right track. If you stick a 9 inch wide wheel on a thinner tire then it’ll get stretched (probably not safe) which is why people go with wider tires. I’m running 295’s on those wheel specs and it seems to fit perfect, I don’t think it would sit well on a 265 or 275 wide tire. I’m no expert when it comes to this so take it as a grain of salt.

Yea I’m totally fine with doing a BMC and trimming and eventually a lift but was just not ready yet or I should say my wallet.
