38" tires on a 3rd gen?

I bought some 38" tires from craigslist and they seem huge. Has anyone put this size on a 3rd gen?

 

usually the biggest people do is 3" and a body lift if you want more height, and that allows for a 33"-35"

 

so you bought the big tires without lifting the truck first ?

 

It was an impulse purchase. I saw them for a very cheap price and just bought them now I don't know what to do with them.

 

My 98 has had 38s on her. I have a set of them on beadlocks and a set of 35s (currently on her). If your rig is still IFS you've got your work cut out for you squeezing that much tire in the wheel wells

 

Do you have a pic with the 38s on her

 

May have to install the 'Sawzall' lift. Your CVs are gonna love 38s!

 

At this point I'd be more concerned with actually turning the 38's, as in having the gearing to move larger and heavier tires ... if you havn't re-geared your diffs , your stock motor and stock diffs are going to struggle constantly ...

 

Not currently I'd have to swap them on to snap one--btw this is an SAS rig so not sure if it would be an apple to apple comparo

 

If I were you...sell the tires! Unless you plan on spend a good bit of money and a whole lot of work...those 38's will never fit! I'm running 33's...with a 3" lift w/ 1" body lift and taken out my pinch weld. And occasionally my tires still rub.

35's you break out the sawzall and start cutting the foot-well out! Anything bigger...SAS. That's about the only way you can achieve higher lift to fit the tire.

You can buy my ready to drive SAS Rig and just put the tires on it. It has 37's and I'm sure 38's would be no issue at all. That problem would be solved. Just saying.
