I have a 2005 4runner. The OEM starter that came with the car failed in 4 years. I had it rebuilt but that failed in 1 year. I then ordered a starter from Amazon and it failed after 4 years.

Then I ordered a starter from Amazon that came with a LIFETIME Warranty. It's been in the 4runner for 4 years and 4 months. I kept the receipt and the box and called the manufacturer and asked about the lifetime warranty, and was told if it fails they will replace it, and I don't have to send the failed unit back.

Amazon no longer sells a starter with a lifetime warranty. But, how can any manufacturer offer a lifetime warranty on a new 4runner starter? Why doesn't Toyota put them in their new 4runners?

    Amazon.com: DB Electrical SND0491 Starter Compatible With/Replacement For Toyota Tacoma & Tundra 4.0L 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 & 4Runner 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 FJ Cruiser 2007 2008 2009: Automotive

The lifetime warranty starter has lasted longer than the OEM or any other starter I used as a replacement. Will it last 9 years?

I have a backup non-lifetime starter from Amazon that costs $80 for when the lifetime warantee starter fails and I have to drive my 4runner.

I got 22 years out of my factory starter. Then the key wore out....

My experience with Lifetime Warranties. I'm still here - they're all gone. Lifetime to me has come to mean they know they're close to the end. Think about it.:playball:

I’ve had similar experiences with Toyota starters. My key held up longer than yours, though

Yes I thought about that. Time will tell. Good marketing scam if they are gone.

But, what if it never fails?

The offer was from Amazon's webpage.
    Amazon.com: DB Electrical 410-52127 Starter Compatible With/Replacement For Toyota 4Runner 3.4L 1996-2002, T-100 Pickup 3.4L 1995-1998, Tacoma 3.4 1995-2004, Tundra 3.4L 2000-2004 /28100-07010 /1.4KW: Automotive

Get a lawyer and take it up with them? It's part their liability too!

And...you gotta do the repair again, or pay to have it done. Those warranties don't cover the labor.

Pretty sure there's no one left on here that doesn't know about the OP's starter, compressor and evaporator woes.
