What car did your 4Runner replace?

Will be replacing a 2015 Durango r/t

 

Which one? LOL! '98 SR5 replaced a '91 Toyota regular cab, short bed, which replaced an '84 Supra. An '03 Limited replaced the '98. Stupidly, the '03 was replaced by an '05 F250. Then there where a couple of Explores and an Escape (the wife's choice) which were replaced by an '06 Limited. A '10 F150 Raptor replaced the '06. I gotta admit, the Raptor was a kool truck. Back to 'Runners with a '13 limited. Now comes the '15 Mustang GT Premium Performance Pack. I was able to throw keys for that one. The Raptor for the new Mustang and NO money exchanged hands. The '13 'Runner and the '15 mustang became the supercharged '19 Limited Nightshade, and I' stickin' to my story. HAH!

As a side note, the six year old 'Runner with more miles got WAY more for the trade-in than the four year old Mustang with way less miles. The MSRP on both was about the same when purchased new. Unless I win the lottery, the '19 should be the last vehicle, as I am an Old Fart. LOL!

Geesh you buy more vehicles than me. Past ten years for me were 04 Dakota with 11 ram sport then a 16 Silverado now an 18 power wagon. Wife was a 90s park ave then an 06 tiburon then a 2010 compass then 13 outlander sport then 15 grand Cherokee then 17 grand Cherokee then 15 Durango rt and now the 21 sr5 premium.

 

In my small defense I had the Dakota for ten years.

 

Replaced a 2009 Toyota Corolla.

 

2008 Hummer H2 SUT Off-Road Package - Only mod I did 37" tires (workout on the Moab Rim) - Had 187.000 miles when I sold and replaced with a 2019 Toyota 4 runner TRD Off-Road Premium, working on mods right now.

Yeah, all my Audi Quattros have outperformed any and all of my 4WD trucks, SUVs, and wanna-bes in every category except serious off-roading, heavy on-board load hauling and trailer load hauling. However, I'd never take my 4WD trucks, SUVs, and wanna-bes up to the speeds that my Audis have been very comfortable running at. Plus, the resale/residual value of German engineering isn't there like we've been seeing with Toyota lately either.

 

1990 Isuzu Trooper...2.8 v6 5sp. owned 28 yrs. great ride....problem being...parts are drying up....almost impossible to find..and junk yards don't carry many any more....

 

I bought my 2019 4Runner from the sales of my 1986 FJ60 LandCruiser (my favorite vehicle to-date), and my 2012 Audi S5 (6MT, V8, and nearly second most favorite vehicle to-date). My only wish for my 4Runner is that it would have been offered with a 6 speed manual transmission.

I'm very happy with my 4Runner, but nostalgia makes me miss those old chariots.

 

I also had a 2014 M235i, loved both that and the M2. But was looking to get back into a daily driver that I could drive wherever, couldn’t do it with the M2. Don’t get me wrong it was a great car with amazing power that I miss. But I was not looking forward to the maintenance 5-6 years down the road which was the main reason for going toyota.

 

Thx. I hear you. My main reason for giving up the M235 was my disappointment in how digital it felt to drive (inc fake engine noise through the stereo and gimmicky software-programmed exhaust overrun), but I was also constantly bothered by the sense it would end up very expensive to maintain and prob wouldn’t last long. I mighta lived with the latter if it wasn’t for the former. My GTI was so joyful to drive, I expected the much faster and RWD BMW to be more so. Alas.

 

Just replaced my 2008 Land Rover LR2 with a new 2021 TRD. Love it so far. Need to change the tires and put some running boards on it.

 

LOL yet another car in this thread that I used to have! Bought one of the first LR2s to hit the US, so a 2008 model purchased in 2007. It was even that wild orange color. Thing was in the shop over and over for manufacturing defects. Sucked a lot of gas too, espec for something with so little cargo room and mediocre power. Which was espec a problem since at the time I had a long commute. But it had good attributes too. Felt strong, like every piece of steel was made extra thick. Really good seats. Great visibility. Outstanding HIDs. inexplicably resistant to cross winds on the highway (that was really weird). Cool looking. So I get why people bought them. My wife liked it. But I consider it one of the worst car buying mistakes I ever made. A 2021 TRD 4Runner is leaps and bounds better!

 

Yep, my LR2 was constantly in the shop as well. In fact the reason I finally decided to get rid of it was because the rear differential was going out for the 2nd time. Plus, when it had to go to the shop it was very expensive to maintain. I agree it had great HID's (people always thought I had my highbeams on) and that it was very aerodynamic and comfortable. It was also great in the rain with the full time all wheel drive and it was very easy to see out of. I actually thought it got decent gas millage for a vehicle with all wheel drive. I was getting around 19-20, which is much better than I'm getting (so far) on my first tank in the 4-Runner. It may have been the overdrive in the 6-speed in the LR2 versus the 5-speed in the Toyota that helped with the MPG.
I just love the looks of the 4-Runner and I also needed the extra cargo space. They seem well built and they hold their value a lot better than most SUV's on the road today.

 

Tesla Model S. Full disclosure, the Model S replaced a 01 4runner. Guess I'm just a 4Runner guy....

 

2010 ford explorer. Bought it new in 2009. The repair bills were adding up. New explorers are soccer mom/grocery getters....not going there!
Wanted a bigger,better, more reliable 4x4. traded in the ford for a 2020 4 runner.

 

Replaced a well loved 2012 Sienna.

 

I think 19/20 might be a bit better than I got in my LR2. In the 4Runner I've averaged a bit over 18 in 8K miles, but a lot of those miles are highway. When you compare the LR2 MPG to other vehicles of that size and power, it really was low. 17/18 in the Runner is a way better deal than 19/20 in a LR2 when you factor in the added size and capability. Also, I could be mistaken but as I recall the LR wanted premium gas?

You'll need a bunch of tanks before you know what you're really getting. But yes, low to mid teens is easy around town. 13 or so seems to be pretty common if you're just taking short trips.

PS Back then the EPA numbers (23 highway for the 08 LR2) were less realistic than they are now. So I think my actual mileage stood out for being so far below the EPA estimate. In my Runner, in contrast, I've beaten the EPA highway number on a number of long trips. That said, on a tank full of short trips I've done worse than the EPA.

Hey, in a year or two the prices on Broncos may come down (you know the first ones are gonna sell over MSRP, even in normal market conditions), the choice of models and options will increase, other people will have been the guinea pigs for QC issues, and Ford might have discovered a thing or two to improve during manufacture.

Plus, especially based on the way things have been going, your 4Runners should be worth a lot if you decide to trade them in.

Hey !! Congratulations Taco4R. Just picked up my 2021 4R/TRD-ORP last Friday. You are going to like it.
That is one nice looking Tacoma!! Bet you will miss it for a while. While I think my new 4R is great, I still miss my 2010 FJ Cruiser. What I liked about the FJ was it's simplicity. But I'm happy I could trade it in for a Fifth Generation 4R - while I can still get one. LOL

LOL. Yes, would appear so. I'm going to put the same B.F.'s on my new 4R. One of the Forum members posted a pic of his TRD/ORP in the same Magnetic Grey Metallic as mine. He mounted the B.F.'s on the stock wheels with the white letters showing. The only other thing he did was have the front and rear silver valences painted black. To me, it changed the entire look of the vehicle with just those two changes. I think I saved the pic (?) I'll post it if I can locate it.
