KDSS Lift Question

    When looking for rear lift springs, what is the difference between regular coils and coils designed for KDSS?

    Generally from what I’ve read with KDSS it’s recommended you don’t go above 2” of lift, so most KDSS specific coils don’t go higher. You can though, but you’ll need a drop bracket for the rear sway bar. Someone else with KDSS can chime in but that’s what i think it is.

    I'm at 3" no problem.

    I'm not sure what drop bracket was required I didn't order one and had no issues. Unless my guy installed it for free.

    Track bar is optional but I got one anyways.

    There are some coils that adjust for the lean. But I got icon coilovers and adjusted for the lean by adjusting the coilover.

    Bracket isn’t required, but helps realign everything to avoid Amy potential failure while doing articulate trails. If you aren’t doing serious articulation you probably won’t need it.

    I just bought a 2021 with KDSS and will be installing a 3" up front and a 2" in the rear at the end of July. I will circle back here to try and confirm if, at full droop, there is any contact with a 2" lift on the back once the lift is installed.

    I'm not sure how the lift height would cause this, unless it comes with extended travel. Otherwise, if travel isn't extended, it shouldn't be an issue. :notsure:

    I don’t have KDSS so I can’t vouch for anything. The guy who runs that page is pretty well versed in the 4runner world so I would trust he has an idea of what he’s saying:notsure:

    Not 3" in the rear.

    I'm also at 3" without any issues. I believe the difference in "KDSS springs" is that one is slightly longer to help counter the potential sag that some get. I don't think my rear springs are KDSS specific, but I didn't personally notice any sag so I'm not worried about it.

    I believe the non-KDSS springs are actually different lengths. I am guessing that you are referring to the driver side lean.

    KDSS rear springs are different heights. I have Dobinsons KDSS specific rear springs and there is a height difference between the two. The passenger side was higher/longer than the drivers side and they were also labeled.
    You can use a 10/15.. spacer to do the same if the springs are not KDSS specific assuming there is a lean

    It seems unusual that the springs for KDSS equipped vehicles would be different lengths since they should be less likely to lean than non KDSS 4Runners.

    I have Bilstein 6112's which recommend using a higher setting for the driver's side for non-KDSS 4Runners and the same setting on both sides for KDSS equipped 4runners. Mine are both set to the same height and I have no lean.

    This video may help explain and show some of the issues you can encounter lifting a KDSS equipped 4Runner too tall. The Black Gate Customs drop brackets can be a great addition to help with clearance if you are after a tall lift or want to run long shocks. Another limiting factor is the upper control arm hitting the gas tank at full droop if you have too long of a shock, but most wont run into that issue.

    Thank you AccuTune for providing valuable info. When ever I say when lifting KDSS vehicle to work with a company like you who knows about KDSS people often seem to comment "its no different than non KDSS". Appreciate all that info AccuTune..:cheers:

    I added a toytec 1/2" spacer up front and Ironman 3/4" spacer in the rear of the passenger side to adjust for the lean. Friend of mine with the same lift didnt have lean issues. KDSS is a hit/miss and some get lucky with no lean.
