I really like them- at the moment I’m deciding between a brand new 4door civic or a used (50k) outback.. it’s kinda a tough call. The outback is definitely nicer and sits a little higher but brand new is always good too. I hate making car buying decisions

After multiple back surgeries and dealing with snow made the outback a better choice for my wife, this was after a multiple Volkswagens.

I can confirm Carmax offered $46k for my 4Runner trd off road premium 2021. I’m in California.

Glad to see some of you give props to the Outback. I am awfully tempted to take the very good offer Ive got on the 4Runner and replace it with an Outback. It would handle all of my non-pavement needs, 90 percent of my cargo needs, and the deal would put about seven grand in my pocket that I could use for other things.

Just for S & G I went on Vroom to see what the 2021 Venture would fetch. They offered 45,500.00. That amount is pretty much what I paid for it before tax and license. I'm not selling. But if I love the new Bronco.... You never know.

Still waiting on Vroom to pass paperwork to their contracting dept. I was quoted $45.5 for my 2020 TRDOP with 9750 miles... Still not sure what to get next to be honest. Since purchasing the side by side and taking it out on trail and just breezing through the toughest terrain that West Virginia Hatfield McCoy had to offer - I am really hooked on it. I've covered over 220 miles of trails in two days of riding. Not to take anything from the 4runner - but some of those trails I would not even attempt in it. Not to mention the ability to fly at 50+ mph over whoops and then getting into some really technical trails through the woods and mountains.
Camping in 21 degree weather was also less than optimal, and even thought my RTT and sleeping bag did amazing I've woken up both days with a horrible headache from my head coming exposed during the night. Also, towing with the 4runner was not the greatest experience. My total load was right about 4klbs - trailer and KRX combined, plus my RTT and camping supplies in the 4runner. To be at 65mph I was pushing about 3200RPM on flat ground. Any sign of uphill or even wind would result in jumping to next gear and engine RPM of north of 4KRPM. Keeping up with traffic and doing 70-75MPH caused the engine to spin at 4.2K RPM and netted me 9 MPG. Driving for hours at 4000 RPM can be tiring and I don’t imagine really good for the engine (not even thinking about the transmission and rear diff).
So, what's my next direction? Well, right now I am selling my RTT, gonna take the positive equity from the 4runner and will look for a good tow rig, that is reliable while also getting decent mileage for commuting. Unfortunately, such a rig does not exist... Pickup truck seems a natural choice but the most reliable one also has the worst fuel economy (Tundra), ones that offer good value are either of spotty reliability score (RAM) or even worse reliability (Silverado), and there is f150 that seems to be a hit or miss. So... just gonna sell for now and keep an eye out for something that would really suit my needs.

For sure - I’ve enjoyed my stay here and plan on remaining. Thank you. There is also a chance that I’ll sell my 4Runner and jump back into a 2021 limited and keep it stock. My lift and tires surely don’t help the mileage or towing experience.
And there is a chance that the vroom/carvana deal does not happen and I just keep the 4Runner and not worry about it too much when towing once every couple of months or so. Time will tell …

My feelings exactly. I wanted the same drive train as my 2010 FJ Cruiser. So bought the 2021 4R/TRD-ORP while I could. Bet they are going to be even more difficult to get next year.

That's crazy !!! LOL I just bought a new 2021 TRD/ORP with a sunroof for 42K with zero miles. Maybe I should take delivery and turn around and sell it, and order another new one ? LOL

$40,800 for a '19 SR5P from Carmax. I'm starting to get slightly more interested.

Vroom offered me $42680 for my 2019 OR last week, then upped it $500 to $43180 over the weekend for '3 days only'...it's sort of fun to watch. If there was any other vehicle I wanted, I'd take 'em up on it. My 3 days only offer expired today, though...

I’ve mentioned this before - but, here it goes again. https://www.sitejabber.com/reviews/vroom.com
Just like in the reviews, initial communication flow was great. Now, things seem to be at a standstill.

I've owned the 4R since September 2019, and the odo just hit 6500. That's the mileage I reported to Vroom.

I really can't recommend CarMax enough for those looking to cash in on this market. They had the top offer on my 4Runner and best of all, physical locations to take the truck to. It was a 1.5 hour drive there but the benefit of getting paid on the spot was well worth it.

This is crazy! Vroom just offered me $39660, which is $1K more than I paid new in January 2019, even with 55K miles! Just madness!

It wouldn't make up for the parts and labor invested. If it was stock, then yes. :D

I think used dealers are seeing inventory levels of new ones dropping and possibly interrupted due to material shortages and seeing opportunity for buyers coming to them for a vehicle instead of new car dealers. Probably true across many makes and models. Automakers I’m sure will be very near top of list of priority customers when raw materials are limited. And if production lines are going down, then resources must be very limited.

My local dealer typically has 12-18 4runners on lot at any given time. I just checked….they only have 3 currently.

Yes! I bought the 4Runner to keep it. I can see selling if experiencing financial difficulty or if someone was already considering a change.

Same here. I was kind of surprised, and wonder if the offers will get even higher due to vehicle shortages.

Meanwhile, other 4R owners are paying 2k+ for a rear bumper in order to do that very thing, haha.

Besides the a rear mounted spare tire carrier being a handy location to mount other accessories, the factory spot underneath is a terrible location. That'll be loads of fun to access on the trail or in bad weather, plus if you live in one of the road salt states, chances are the mechanism is rusted solid and it's not coming down from there at all.

I'm afraid to even mess with mine, I have a feeling it'll make it about halfway down and then get stuck there.
