Just to bring a few threads together. I was playing on KBB for giggles & found that it claims that our vehicles value is way above the $40k flat we purchased it for. We do only have 10k miles due to covid (no traveling & wife working from home).
I don't understand this & am curious about how it will hold in the coming years. We have no plan to sell but I was interested to see the value & these are my findings. It doesn't account for the Xpel clear wrap with a 10 yr transferable warranty covering 80% of the vehicle...

I'd say go to a dealer. Maybe the cost to trade in for a 2021 is small enough to consider it. It cost me about $10k to trade in my 19 limited for a 21 nightshade. Not a terrific financial move, but I'm still happy with it. Highly doubt these kbb figures are accurate, used going for more than mrsp is illogical for regular cars.

We are not interested in capitalizing on the current trend. We bought the '19 because we didn't want TSS. Maybe others are feeling the same way... This truck is perfect for us!

yep. Don’t give the dealers any more money unless you have something that pisses you off about the car (in my case some dings in the wheels after getting new tires installed lol). The dealers never honor kbb. My kbb quote was about $40k. They offered $37k but later gave in and upped to to $37.5k a few months ago.

Dealer tried talking me into trading in my 2018, when i was there for the fuel pump recall. They can't get 4Runners in their pre owned inventory.

Just for kicks, I did my estimate on KBB for my ‘15 SR5 Premium. I love my 4R and have no plans to get rid of it but always enjoy seeing it retain its value (I bought used for $32k 3 years ago.)

So how did the fuel pump swap out go? Any change in gas mileage?

Took them about 2hours. Don't think a fuel pump would effect mileage, but i wouldn't know. i have zero desire to track gas mileage, needle hits 3/8 i fill the tank.

I was offered $54,360 from VROOM. If this deal holds and is true I will be selling my Pro immediately.

It's interesting that anyone who is a member on a 4Runner enthusiast forum would be so quick to sell their 4Runner just because resale is high.

I suppose if you were looking to get rid of it anyway it makes sense.:notsure:

A vehicle is not normally an appreciating asset. With driving less working from home. It might make sense for some to sell. I was curious since the market was driving up prices what it would go for. I’d only trade/sell mine for a TRD Pro Tacoma in Army Green or Lunar Rock, so safe to say I probably won’t be getting rid of mine as those are about impossible to find in stock and at a decent price.

    Obviously

I get that from a practical standpoint. It just seems odd for an enthusiast to think that way.

Personally, I knew the 4Runner was an impractical purchase from the beginning.

Careful now, you are going to burst my rationalization bubble that I crafted to justify my 4runner. ;) The 4runner is soooo practical, I couldn't help but buy it to replace my minivan.

That said, this is the first time Ive had a vehicle that appreciates in value. Insane. I’ve been kind of tempted to run the math myself,
but dont want to risk selling this one and not being able to find another new 4runner to replace it with.

If it all worked out, you could potentially flip for a new car, pay taxes and tags, and still pocket a grand or two. Maybe.

one thing is for sure though, the market has really given anyone with buyers remorse a “get out of jail free” card.

I agree with you but not all that buy 4runners are enthusiasts. Personally, I’m not getting rid of mine.

im tempted because my 12 TE still holds value. i just cracked 75k a day ago so its still relatively "low" mileage. i would just be getting a newer 4runner if i decided to do anything about it. BUT i love my 4runner so i doubt i will make a move.

^ that's a bad comparison as the 4Runner is at the top of the food chain in its class...
there is nothing fake or photoshopped about the 4R, just pure history of badassery

You'd sell a proven bulletproof platform for something completely unproven and completely reliant on battery power(knowing that all batteries eventually die and become useless)? Weird.

You wouldnt sell an old dinosaur of a vehicle that is completely reliant on battery power, for a new awesome vehicle that drives itself and has a much bigger battery that will take longer to go bad?

I've been considering selling my ORP. Vroom offering 4k more than I paid last year with 22k more miles... Seems like a no brainer. Love my T4R, but my family needs have changed. I can pay cash for a car, and I've got my GX as the play toy.

I wouldn't bother if you're just going to get another one. Any extra money you get would just be sucked up by the purchase of the newer one. It's like the housing market...great time to sell, but you're boned when it comes to buying the next house.

If I were to get rid of mine, I'd bank most of the money and buy a beater 4x4. I'm not a Toyota guy, I don't see myself ever having another after this one.

Hopefully I won't ever have to own a vehicle that's completely reliant on battery power... except maybe a golf cart.
