Jack it up and put stands under the frame so the axle hangs as low as possible. Remove the spare tire to make more room to work. Lube the spare tire crank while you’re under there for good measure. Should be good to go, very straight forward bolt in swap.

^that and use spray lube in the hangers. Many wrestle with them but properly lubed they come off easy

Correct, a little lube helps the metal hanger slide right out of the rubber isolator. Lube really is the answer to everything in life........

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
There is a gasket of sorts at cat to muffler, but if it's new enough then you can reuse it. Toyota recommends replacing it if need be but does not include it in the kit for the TRD exhaust. It includes the other gasket, the muffler to tailpipe.

I installed my TRD exhaust after about 6 months, and my cat to muffler gasket was fine.

About to do the same thing and swap my stock OEM exhaust with a friend’s TRD Pro exhaust. Did you need to replace any of the gaskets? Cat to muffler or muffler to tailpipe? Lastly, how easy was the install? Thinking of doing this myself or should I consider having a shop do it?

Called Toyota parts and they recommended this part number: 1745131020

Wondering if the parts guy was wrong

I highly recommend an impact, a long extension and a swivel for the flange above the rear axle.

i did not get any new parts (gaskets) but my ride was pretty new, its very simple swap just make sure you have the rear of the 4RNR jacked up and safe to help with drooping the muffler through good luck

Yup. I called the dealer and they recommended the same thing. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to replace it even though it has low miles. I’m not very shop savvy and it was fairly simple. There is a link on YouTube that I used for some pointers. I’ll look for it and post it.

Not sure where you live, but here in the Houston area, I’ve had to take 0000 steel wool to the exhaust tip every couple of weeks to keep it polished otherwise it starts to corrode.

I re-used the cat to muffler metal doughnut. Didn’t have much choice as it was kinda stuck to the car side. Muffler to tailpipe metal doughnut was supplied. But if used, should still be good.

I see guys going to TRD but I'm wanting to get rid of the TRD muffler but keep the tailpipe. Anything preventing just the muffler section change?? Stock muffler and a TRD tailpipe? I just want quiet, and the TRD tip in tact.

Yes. The flanges are different on the pro exhaust. Pro has 3 hole flange and one has 2 hole flange. but if you weld on the 3 hole flange, then your good.

So... just thinking out loud here.. Anyone just cut that side jaunt section out and plugged it? Wonder if thats the "drone" section. lol Wish I could pinch it like a fuel line for a second to see... :p

Most likely the louder note and drone is coming from the pro muffler. If you use no-pro muffler and weld in a 3 hole flange .. your golden

The only thing attractive about this exhaust is the physical side exit, everything else is a loss.

Yes, looks awesome unless you live in a snow belt. Chicago road salt kills the tip. Mine was even ceramic coated

I have a brand new (50 miles on it) non Pro exhaust system if anyone wants to trade for their Pro exhaust system?

Does anyone know which 3-bolt flange to buy to weld onto the non-pro muffler section so that it can bolt onto the pro tail section?

There's a variety available on summit racing...

This looks like shit. I wanted a TRD exhaust but it seems the black exhaust is basically trash. If it’s doing that in Texas, I’d imagine it would be worse in Denver. My 2.5gen Tacoma TRD exhaust is doing great, no corrosion so far. But it’s not black & still good after 4 years!! I guess Borla for the 4Runner!!

Mine is starting to do the same. I went from SR5 factory exhaust to the side exit TRD black exhaust. If I knew it would start looking like this I don't think I would have done the swap. I tried a cleaner but did not help. Is there a way to possibly remove the black paint/powdercoat so it is just unfinished/polished metal? Heavy duty paint remover? I've used it on my son's trick scooter and it worked like a charm. Wondering if I can get the same results on this exhaust tip?

As long as you clean it off well. I’d worry about the heat making it toxic at high temps if not washed off all the way

I have a 2022 4Runner TRD PRO. With the side exit black "chrome" tipped exhaust. It's been through one half winter. Here in Pa. The tip was so corroded, rusted and pitted. My dealership swapped it at no charge.

They tried to pull a fast one. Cut off the tip and put on a $100 optional exhaust tip. Once cut off, there wasn't enough pipe to mount to accessory tip. So they had to order and install a whole new PRO exhaust.

On a 7,735 mile Overland trip. It's drone drove me crazy on the highway at 3,000rpm.

I just put a TRD exhaust on my 2023 TRD ORP and it actually sounds really good. It definitely does not drone like others have said they do. I have had Mustangs that you could not hear yourself think in and just got rid of my Audi S5 which had the V6 supercharged with a AWE track exhaust and that thing was louder then this. I know to each is their own but there is just a nice deep little rumble now and even my wife commented on how good it sounds.

Yep, I agree, just drove it 2500 miles didn't bother me or my wife one bit. Only draw back is with exhaust to the side and my 4runner being white, I've noticed it leaves exhaust soot on the paint. No biggie.

I enjoy the sound too. I’m use to an N1 style muffler on my first gen is300. My neighbors can hear me coming a mile away but never know when my wife gets home in the 4Runner.
