Going to Purchase an SR5 Premium. Want to change tires and wheels.

    The first upgrade or change will be the wheels and tires. My wife wants to keep the suspension stock but I have a feeling it'll get raised an inch in the front. I've been kind of beating my head against the wall trying to decide what to go with. I've done quite a bit of research and it seems that a C rating is the way to go. There's not much out there with that rating in the stock size. BFG's and some other crap I don't want. If I swap to an 18 inch rim then I could go 275 65 18 and have some options but the tire weight goes way up. From aprox 39 lbs to 50 +. I am contemplating going with the black TRD pro wheels as the look is nice and they don't weigh much. I don't want to tank the gas mileage at all is a big factor and I'd like the tires to be pretty damn flush with the flares. What should I be looking to do here to accomplish this folks? Thanks a ton.

    2 weeks without a reply should tell you all you need to know. Seems you are looking for a Unicorn.

    Having said that, I bought my 1st 4R a month ago. I installed a CornFed 1" front spacer to level the 4R. ( the spacer is actually 1/2", but it gives you a 1" lift +-). Not totally level but the stance is better looking to me. It has a slight forward rake.

    I contemplated buying BFG KO 2's, but upon further review decided to get Falken Wildpeak AT/3's, 275/70R17. I read that the BFG's were prone to hydroplaning and the Falkens were good to great in the rain. I haven't mounted the tires yet, they should be in tomorrow. Also, I concluded (right or wrong) that the only advantage the BFG's had was they have a 10 ply sidewall, which will resist sidewall punctures better than the "C" rated Falkens. I don't plan on doing any hardcore rock crawlin', so BFG's would probably be overkill for me.

    To get the tires flush with the flares, you could get the proper width spacers. From what I researched, that is not the ideal setup, but it will work.

    Full disclosure, I am total noob to this 4R stuff, but nobody else has given you any help. Just letting you know what I have learned in a month. I hope some one with more knowledge than I will chime in.

    how did that 1 inch level affect your mileage? Just curious. I get mixed reviews on that. Some say it will drop it by a couple mpg and some say nothing. As for the wheels, she wants RRW wheels and I can't blame her. They are awesome. It's getting them that's going to be a pain in the ass. The other wheel choice is Enkei Cyclones in matte black. Just not quite sold on them yet. The tire will probably be a stock size in the BFG's.

    At the risk of sounding flippant, I do not care about gas mileage, so I don't calculate MPG's. I have no idea what the 1" lift did to the gas mileage.

    If I cared about MPG's, I would have bought a Prius.

    I just got back from a 100 mi errand. I reset the MPG gauge. I show 20.6 mpg @ 65 mph on factory tires. Hope this helps.

    RSG sliders, Yakima offgrid basket, Pro-Comp wheels, SOS Streamline bumper and skids, Warn VR EVO10S winch + Ultimate Sidewinder, Bilstein 6112 + 5100 + rear lift coils, Rigid Dually SS ditch lights w/Caliraised brackets and OEM style dash switch
    A 1 inch lift shouldn't hurt the mileage much. I'm lifted 2.3/1.5" and on E rated 295/70/17's and can still get 19 highway at 55-60 MPH. At higher speeds it does drop quickly.

    If you're not off-roading the 4runner stick to SL rated tires for the best ride and fuel economy.

    I care about fuel economy. Unfortunately, I still haven't found a 4wd Prius with a 2 speed transfer case. So, I do what I can to save fuel.

    The PS pump can handle the weight.

    Not sure why you’re concerned about tire weight ratings either.

    The 4Runner isn’t capable of fast lane changes or handling or stopping.

    Well I think the wife and I settled on the rims and tires. We are going to go with stock size toyo at3's and black rhino ridge wheels. They are very similar to the TRD wheels. They are of course heavier which is unfortunate but the at3's are lighter than the BFG's and we don't need a C tire on her rig anyways. We will lift in 1 inch in the front with a cornfed spacer. So all in all we shouldn't be a ton heavier than stock. If we can find the RRW wheels we wanted first we'll swap to those but as for now that's the plan.

    I mounted 275/70R 17 on the stock SR5 wheels. Looks way, way better than the stock tires. Ride quality improved, seems to track better, expansion crack "thump" is greatly decreased. Tire noise is negligible. And it looks like a 4R should look.

    I stood next to a 4R with Falken Wildpeaks 265/70 17. The 275's, to me, looked a ton better. I can't tell you what the tires have done to my mpgs's as I haven't driven it more than 25 miles since I had them mounted.

    well the tires and wheels will be here tomorrow. Too bad the 4Runner isn't yet. Now we get to stare at those for a bit. It got state side on the 29th of May. End of June/Mid July you think we'll see it?

    I looked at Falken Wildpeaks 275/70R17 in Load C and released that they are heavier than E Load KO2. I was surprised to see Load C been heavier than Load E.
    The size 275/70R17 seem to suck when it comes to tire options. No good tire options.

    got the rims and tires today. odd they put the metal old school valve stems in but I looked at pictures online and it seems a lot or most of them do. must be a toyota thing.

    Here's one with TRD wheels, 265 Wildpeaks and the Eibach lift kit. 18.5 - 19.5 mpg on the highway (70 or below)

    Your MPG's are right in line with my gas milage. 1,000 miles on 'em now. Even at 80 mph my dash meter indicated a tic or two under 19 mpg.
