    Hello,

I purchased my TRD pro about 6 months ago and quickly learned the limits of the stock setup. When doing trails like Red Cone Pass in Colorado or Broken Arrow in Sedona, AZ I feel like I am slowly destroying the truck lol. I have some RSG rock sliders coming in soon, but I would like some advice on what type of lift I should get. I am planning on getting a King or Elka setup in a couple of years if I really get into off roading, but I want something quick and inexpensive now to allow me to take on some more difficult trails without scraping everything.

I just purchased a .75"in front spacer from CornFed to get some more front clearance and debating a rear spacer or lift springs depending on how it sits. I am also thinking about not going this route at all, and just using 14" springs from the 6112 kit and using rear lift springs. I have seen that this makes the truck quite tall in reviews of this setup.

Will this setup improve off road abilities much? I am afraid if I use the springs to lift the truck it will be too high for me. I want to be able to keep it in a garage with a GFC Superlight tent, which is 4-6in tall. I am not sure it will fit with this spring lift setup.

One last thing, I want to run SCS F5 -38 wheels whenever they become available. I am fine with doing a BMC. If I do my lowest setup, .75"F and .5"-1.25"R lift will a 285/70/17 fit on this very negative offset wheel and not rub? Keep in mind this is Pro model so effectively the lift would be 1.75"F and about 1"R.

Thanks for your input. I have found a lot of great information, but I am having troubles putting it all together.

This is a tough spot to be in.

If you buy something new that's equivalent to your current suspension, it's rather expensive just to use for 2 years before you upgrade to King or Elka. If you get something less expensive, it's a downgrade from your current set-up.

Although spacers will improve your approach angles a bit, they're probably not the best solution for more aggressive off-roading. Also, they're not going to improve your clearance, as only larger tires will help with that.

-38 offset is absolutely going to rub (even if you were running a stock tire size). You will be doing a mudflap trim or removal and a body mount chop to get just about any tire to fit with that offset. But it can be done.

My advise, look for a used set of Bilstein 6112's for the front that are in good shape. This is pretty much equivalent to your current set-up and buying used will save you some money. They're also adjustable so you can choose your lift height up front. Keep your stock rear shocks and get a lift coil back there. You'll be able to keep that lift coil and use it with your Kings or Elka's.

I am going to stick with my current shocks for sure, only 50k miles on them and good enough. I have seen people put 14" springs from a 6112 front shocks on them and it gives about another 2" from where I am at now, which is 3" over a standard 4runner. Seems a bit to high without UCA's. I am between that or just using the .75" spacer I have and doing a spacer in the rear or a 1" lift spring. Either should clear a 285/70 with a BMC even with -38 offest?

    Ah, I see.

That coil is going to make your front end pretty tall. Will you be able to fit in the garage with that?

Also, if you only go 0.75 or 1" up in the rear with that front coil, you'll be nose high. You'll need a 2" lift coil in the rear to keep your current stance.

This coil is a little smaller and it might work. It's worth looking into at least:

Also, your lift height will not dictate whether you rub with 285's or not.

It's the offset that dictates whether you rub and -38's are a very low offset. Other people run them, so it's do-able. Just know you're going to be doing some trimming.

A lot of people will run offset wheels or spacers because 285s will contact the upper control arms, they are way too close with the stock wheels, that’s why I had to do it, and then do the body mount job because I was getting rubbing to clear my upper control arms.

I don't think it will fit in my current garage with the tent on top. It would be extremely close. I would have to measure many times over to check clearance. I will look into that for sure. Thanks for the recommendation!

I ran 285's, stock UCA's and stock OR wheels (+15 offset) for 2 years with no rubbing on my UCA's.

I do have wheel spacers on now, but its just to widen my track width.

With some aftermarket UCA's, you do need a wheel spacer or a lower offset wheel for clearance.

Didn't think UPCs would be the rubbing point but it makes sense. I am sure I will need a pretty aggressive BMC to get these wheels to.

Mine were less than my fat pinky with SPC UCAs, so I had to put in Spidertrax and go a BMC.
