Hey everyone, first post here! A few months back I purchased a 2013 4Runner Trail.
When I purchased the vehicle it had 93k on it and currently has 108k.
I have absolutely no idea what to do about transmission fluid. On the CarFax it says “recommended maintenance” was done at 86k but I have no idea wether to leave the transmission fluid alone or to service it.
I feel like it’s a gamble. Any advice is appreciate! Thanks!

It’s doubtful it was done as part of regular maintenance.

A lot of vehicles go their entire life with the same transmission fluid...I personally take it to the dealer that I trust, that will do a full fluid swap (not a fan of drain and refill 3 quarts).

    It’ll run you 200-300 bucks.

I have a 2005 with 150,000 miles. At 105,000 I had the dealer do a D/F and replace the filter. The T dealer receipt showed 6 quarts of T-IV. My runner came with T-IV (not WS), and these Toyota tranny fluids are similar, but you should go with what's in your tranny now. BTW. The 4runners hold a little more than 12 quarts, so changing 1/2 (6 quarts) made good sense to me.

2005 4runner with the A750 should come with WS from the factory in Japan. Heres a picture from the physical owners manual for my 2005 4runner.

OP, because you also have an A750 in your 2013, it also takes Toyota WS. A drain and fill is about 3 qts according to the owners manual, not 6. If you drain and fill multiple times, you can work in new fluid. Another option is to pop a trans cooler line out and exchange fluid this way

Fluid Capacity (Drain and Refill), L (qt., Imp. qt.)
    Up to 3.0 (3.2, 2.6)

    Fluid Type:
    Toyota Genuine ATF WS

    Good advice.

Some (dealers/shops) will tell a person that they need work they don't. Not uncommon in the ARB.

Change tranny fluid (D&F) at 100,000 miles is the general rule for trannies.
