Why don't 4Runner owners wave?

There are so many 4runners out here it would be exhausting / silly to try to make a "4runner salute" a thing. That said...

I received (and gave) a thumbs up to another lunar rock trd pro owner today. First time seeing someone else with the same variation. Made me smile seeing my mirror image right across the intersection and knowing how stoked they were with their ride.

Some that will, some that won't. Sometimes I see the on coming 4Runner coming at me and give a polite wave, sometimes they just seem to appear out of nowhere and I miss them. Generally when I meet someone in the same kind of vehicle I wave. We live in a very small community, and everybody meets someone on the road they know and wave at them.... generally.

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
That sounds like all the more reason to wave.

Why THEY don’t wave. Not why we don’t wave.

Jeep wave died when soccer moms started driving 4 dr color matched hardtop JKs.
I would wave at 2 dr soft top 4runners but so far I haven't seen one.

With the amount of 4Runners I see every day, I would never not be waving, and most soccer moms would think I'm crazy or a dirty old man, or both! No thanks. I get enough of the waving on the motorcycle.

I never knew it was "a thing". But I recently realized that I'm getting waved at/thumbs-up'ed by 4Runners and Jeeps LOL. I enjoy waving back, actually paranoid that the other person will think I'm snobbish for not waving.

There are a couple of 4th gen girls in town with mods that always wave, and we've complemented our trucks at red lights before. At almost 60 years old, they are too young for me, but they know I respect that anyway lol. Soccer moms never wave, for whatever reason, probably too many screaming kids in the back. I get waves from modded 1st gen Tacos more than anything else. The Jeep wave phenomenon has mostly eluded the 5th gen crowd from what I can tell.

Mid 80s we were down in Georgia and most everyone waved to everyone weather in a car, boat and even walking.
Wonder if it’s still that way?

I kinda feel like people should be more focused on driving & what’s in their path rather than focusing on what kind of car is driving towards/around them & trying to wave at them and wait for a return wave.

If we’re on a trail I’ll wave at whoever just as courtesy and because we’re not both driving at highway speed.

I’ve never felt the need to wave at every random person driving down the same road as me. Living in the south all my life, I’ve always found it weird that (mostly older) people just wave at everyone going down the road.

As others have said, a good bit of 4Runner owners just own it for reliable transportation, not because they are true enthusiasts.

Although this doesn’t mean I won’t compliment/wave/head nod a nice Toyota while at a stop.

Noticing another nice truck has never been much of a distraction for me, but I guess some feel it is. Rural areas still get friendly waves, but people are way more disconnected these days, which is what is wrong with society imho. Some people I wave at or say hello just to irritate them and their crappy attitudes towards a fellow human being. Being polite is a virtue sadly over looked these days.

MI-FL is spot on. If you see me, and I see you - you best believe I'll wave. And, if you're waiving to me from outside of your car on a trail somewhere - you best believe I will stop. We need to get back to being friendly, polite and respectful to each other. Damned be all this entrenchment and animosity that is being forced upon us.

As do I. I only get them from other GT500 owners. Kind of a rare site, at least in KC. So when you see one, and that driver sees you in yours, there is a definite wave or thumbs-up. Ever been to Shelbyfest? In 2019, there were over 700 cars, not all Shelby cars, but the majority, from every state in the union. Lots of waves happening there. May 5 through May 8 this year.

Yeah, I don't ever see them around here anymore - at least not the early ones like mine ('07). I occasionally see a later model but it's rare.

Pretty rare to see any '07 - '14 GT500. We go to several shows, cars & coffee events and it is very seldom to see another.

Beautiful! I always liked the rear end/tail light treatment on the 2007-2009 GT500s best. I have gotten used to both the color combo and the rear treatment of our 2013. Can't beat the horsepower!!!

I notice what kind of cars are are because I am paying attention. I don't stare people down waiting for them to wave at me, though.

I agree SO MUCH with this!

I really think social media has something to do with this. People say things they would never say to a stranger face to face.

It doesn't help when people in the media try to influence people to hate each other, and even hate themselves. I'm just happy knowing that the people I know aren't buying into it.

I feel like being aware of your surroundings is the most important part of driving, and if you happen to notice a same model car, which usually can be spotted from afar, giving a short wave and moving along shouldn’t make one less focused. I think. (it’s funny how Land Cruisers can pop in my view even on a highway with a wide median :))

Subaru WRX/STI’s have a wave too, some do, some don’t, some enthusiastic about it, some almost too cool for it. Once I got a Jeep wave while driving my STI! although it was because I stopped and let them through or something like that.
