Time to change my brakes, and looking at replacing my pads and rotors with a Powerstop kit.

    https://trail4runner.com/2018/03/26/replacing-brake-pads-rotors-4runner/

Anybody on here that runs trails with it have any feedback? It gets pretty hot in the summer and the declines on trails are pretty steep, so I ride my brakes pretty hard. I’ve seen a lot of positive feedback on centric rotors and akebono brake pads, but at almost the same price looking at possible going with the drilled and slotted rotors. I know the best upgrade for proper stopping power would be upgrading to a bigger caliper, but not looking to do that now. In the future I plan on doing the tundra caliper swap if needed.

    Thanks!

I been running the Power Stop Pads and Rotors on my Tundra for a Year now and they have been impressive so far. May not see a lot of trail driving with it however towing heavy trailers and lots of ups and down hills er hills? Mountain roads.... One of the Main things about the Power Stop Brakes pads and Rotors make sure that the instruction's for break in are followed exactly as written.

Thanks for the feedback! I actually did a little more reading, seems like they will be a no go for me. Some users reported warped rotors after very minimal use off-road involved with water crossings and such. Looks like a good kit aside from that though.

I think that would happen to pretty much all rotors if you use the brakes a lot and then drive right into a water crossing. It’s the old very hot to very cold thing.

Could be, but seems to be a pretty common complaint of this kit. Would rather play it safe and go with OEM equipment as it hasn’t given me any issues with such instances.

I have used Power stop for years. Never had a warping problem but doesn't mean it can't happen.
One thing I learned is off road use fills the drilled and slotted rotors up with dirt and debris, which retains heat and possibly could have caused the problems you mentioned. So after learning about this I inspected my rotors and did indeed have a build of dirt. Since then I have mixed and matched the Z36 pads with the Z23 plain rotors and have had good results.
They are nice and sticky under controlled braking and will stop you quick in a panic situation. You just have to spend a little more because you aren't buying the kit that is put together. If you plan on staying on pavement then the full Z36 kit might be what you want.

The other thing I do is bedding the new pads and rotors in. I included a couple links below. This process has gotten me some ridicule from the T4R forum experts in the past, but I swear by it, and according to some experts, it will prevent warping to some degree. I believe that improper initial use of new pads and rotors, creates the misconception of warped rotors. This is described in the autozone link. Others will firmly disagree, take that for what it's worth and Good Luck!!

What did you end up going with? I need to replace pads and rotors on my 2016 (90k miles :) ) and have been doing a bit of research. Avoiding drilled/slotted as I do a lot of off-roading.

I kept the rotors as they’re still in good condition, just replaced the pads with OEM Toyota pads. I’ll be swapping out the rotors next time around, and I’ll end up going with centric rotors.
