    Overdrive=towing when not on the highway
    ECT power=Don’t even notice a difference may change shift points I don’t know

    5th gear? In a 3rd gen automatic?

    OD on is for gas mileage. It is a 4th gear. Turning it off, won't allow it to shift into that gear. It's good to turn off OD if you're going up and down hills or towing as the transmission will constantly be shifting in and out of OD...save some wear and tear by turning it off in those cases.

    ECT never seemed to do much for me either.

    Yes turning OD off means that the transmission won't shift into 4.
    I also have never been able to tell whether ECT did anything. I have come to the conclusion that it is merely a dummy switch intended for the driver's psyche.

    Technically there are five gears. Low 4WD gear and 4 high gears...

    ECT changes your shift points a bit.
