Brand new on the forum. I’ve been shopping for a 2021 TRD Pro in Ohio now for a few months. This would be my first Toyota of any kind. My plan from the beginning has been to place an order so I get exactly what I want. Magnetic Grey bone stock except for the $65 front dual USB ports that replace the 120v cigarette lighter. I have a dealer who is offering me $980 below MSRP. Nobody around here is willing to deal and I know from reading around that this is common. Should I take this deal and be happy to be below MSRP? It’s approx a 100 day wait after the order is placed before I’d be in the seat.

Below Msrp on a Pro is hard to come by, especially at the rate t4r's are selling right now. I called every dealer in my state (VA) in my search for my ORP and only 3 would go below msrp on that. Its hard to negotiate price on a vehicle that sells once they hit the lot.

MSRP or below on pros are hard to come buy.
If it’s what you want I would say jump on it and buy it!

My advice if you really want one yes. Reading the other posts and knowing this generation is on its way out yes. How much else might you save? Maybe another $500-1000 tops. Trust me that savings over your lifetime is nothing.

Go get it. I had a uncle pass away a week ago. He worked hard had his own business, saved, always bargained, had a few strokes and fell. He told me before he passed don’t wait within reason. Tomorrow is not guaranteed count your blessings and get it is my advice. When I drive through Ohio with mine fishing we can have a beer!

Sadly I ordered mine the day before my uncle passed away. We talked on the phone that I was on the fence on Wednesday and my money was in Friday night. I called him Saturday morning to tell him I was all in not knowing he passed. I sort of kick myself for not buying last fall when what I wanted was on the lot. Now I am really hoping my order gets in before the cutoff.

Anyway it’s just my opinion, I am changing how I live my life now.

My build sheet MSRP is $51,810. Then the dealer has a $250 document fee (every dealer in 100 mi radius has the same thing) and $35 title/registration, so $52,095 before tax. The dealer is at $51,116 before tax. After tax it will be a $1050 discount. What is the cutoff I’ve heard people talking about? The dealer seemed like it was no problem at all for them to put in this order. I would be putting $1,000 down to place the order and it would get submitted on April 15th. I guess they put orders in on the 15th and 30th. He said right now it’s about 100 days and they’ve been right on.

Buy it. Otherwise I may fly to Ohio to get it: $5-10K over MSRP in California for a Pro. I've been looking.

Yeah, go for it. That’s rare to find right now with the 4runner market. What color is it out of curiosity? Wondering if that has anything to do with it

Before you pull the trigger OP, make sure you know the difference between a Pro and an Off Road Premium (I am not sure of your research level, just checking because you have a low post count).

Since you are choosing a fairly common color (magnetic gray), please make sure your interests wouldn't be better served by an ORP or Venture edition. They're essentially the same truck (minus some Fox shocks) but typically sell for at least $10K cheaper.

Yes, I am aware of the price differences. I also know the Pro's have really been holding resale value. For me personally the TRD pro has enough unique features to justify the price difference. I get for some it’s not worth the money and for others it is worth the surcharge. We lived in Oregon at one time and I plan on using this on trips back out there again. Lots of logging trails in the mountains to re-discover. I'm going with the Magnetic Grey because my wife does not like the Lunar Rock and I am not that big on it either. White and Black were non starters. On the plus side, another dealer I had been talking with called me back yesterday and when I told him what I was looking at price wise he beat my price that I quoted earlier in the post. This dealer is doing $49,000 + delivery = $50,175. That will be $1635 below factory MSRP. Out the door price should be about $1754 savings over paying sticker. I put $1,000 down this afternoon and the order is in today.

Currently 78 degrees. No humidity ever. Just got out of the water. 3-4 foot surf on tap for next couple of days. Mountains and desert an hour away. Baja is 3O minutes south.

California had plenty of problems but I ain’t leaving. I’ve lived in the South and the Midwest. Never again.

Its sunny in Washington, almost got up to 60 degrees today, and I got the Cascades to the West, a bunch of friendly Canadians a few hours north, and the only downside is we have Spokane and the worst state flag.

I’ve looked on some different threads and seen contradictory measurements for the height to the top of the roof rack on the 2021 TRD pro. I’ve got a 2 car garage with 2 single standard 9’ wide by 7’ high garage door openings. They are both actually just slightly under 84” from ground to the bottom of the actual garage door when it’s open. This shouldn’t be an issue should it?

I think he meant in the context of shopping for a truck, not living in the state itself. I live in the south bay but I flew up to Portland to find the right truck. The markups down here are insane. A $200 southwest ticket saved me nearly $5K.

Would be even more savings if California didn’t make you pay the sales tax. I know when we lived outside of Portland having no state sales tax was a huge bonus on large purchases like new cars. That would be a $3600 savings on my Pro. I’m paying 7.25% sales tax. I’m not sure about other states but here in Ohio the dealer has to charge the sales tax of the county you register the vehicle under, so you can’t even save a little buy buying in a county with a lower sales tax rate.

I'm fairly certain that's the rule everywhere. I had to pay the county sales tax for LA.

That's one nice thing about South Carolina. There's a $500 cap on sales tax on vehicles. I think the politicians didn't want to pay on their Mercedes and BMWs. But the poor guy making minimum wage pays the full tax (6%) on his $1500 car.

To answer the question on roof rack height. I would try it before you sign. When I was doing my research I test drive each vehicle and brought it home snd tried on each side of my garage and parked my other car next to it.

I have a 2.5 car garage but have the door adjusted where it goes up an extra two inches. I was looking at ORP though. I took pic with the tail gate opened and it just misses the door by about three inches.

I did not want to spend this sort of money and leave Outside. So just ask them to let you bring it home for an hour

Yeah, but they get you in property tax every year. I miss Ohio where it was 6% sales tax up front, then $50 every year for registration.

No doubt. They're gonna get theirs regardless, I guess. They tax you when you make a dollar, when you spend a dollar, if you own something, if you sell something in some cases, and then there's the extras like gas, tires, tobacco products, etc. The thing that bothers me most is the way they waste it after they collect it.

I get it. I’ll fly anywhere to buy a car. Flew to Seattle years ago to get my Audi allroad. Wanted a 6 speed manual and they had one. I’m actually hoping to do the same on the Pro. I’ll take my time and explore/camp my way back to San Diego.

Same here. I flew to L.A. and then went up to San Fran to buy my Passat W8 wagon 6spd back in 06. Drove it back to OH. I've had it ever since, but its the car going to make room for my TRD Pro.
