Hello. I posted another thread about trailers, but this is more specific. I’ve pulled many a utility trailer with my Tacoma, so I know how they handle. But the enclosed taller trailers I’ve never pulled before.

Both trailers I’m considering the same size of 5 by 8. Single axle.

What I see is a benefit to a utility trailer is low center of gravity, pretty stable with minimal sway, minimal wind resistance, approach and load or unload from any side, and overall versatile utility. It’s drawbacks are dealing with weather, tarps, unsecured if we want to stop somewhere all out travels.

What I see the benefits of an enclosed cargo trailer is protection from the elements and security when we stop or disconnect at camp. Ability to organize it and actually use it to store our gear in as well. What I really don’t know is how well they pull, how stable on the road they are. Are bad cross winds gonna play hell on the highway? I know properly loading is important with either to help that.

so I’m wondering pros and cons of this that have experienced both. We are leaning towards the enclosed. It’s 6 1/5 feet tall ground to top. 5’1” inside height. Pic of enclosed trailer is the middle grey trailers plus. Don’t have pic of utility since they are pretty similar.

Well I found one I can rent. Looks like I’ll give one a test run this weekend!

I have a 5x8 enclosed trailer that came with the 13” rims. It pulled good with all our camping gear. Then, I added a kitchen area with a 27 gallon water tank, storage cabinets for food and gear and installed a RTT. It felt like towing a brick. Every bump on the road I would feel. Then, I changed out the small wheels for the same ones on my tacoma, and towing became so much better. With the larger size wheels the bumps smooth out. Barely notice it behind the tacoma. Haven’t towed it with the 4Runner yet.

That’s really cool! My wife would love that! The one we are looking at comes with 15 in wheels. The one we just rented was a uhaul with 14in wheels. It did pretty well.

The larger wheel will make a big difference.
