Took the stock rims and plasti-dipped them 2 years ago with no sanding or prep at all. It worked well and looked good.

After 2 years and a couple of winters and tire changes, it was starting to look a little ratty...

    GBvNS-9RS6OiXlEDZvDzPA.jpg

So, I bought some bronze/gold spray paint and decided I would see how it looks with the bronze rims.

Got my electric pressure sprayer out, which is only 3200 psi, I believe, and the plasti-dip came right off.

Ran out of light and temperature, so going to finish tomorrow. Still have to remove all the wheels, remove center caps, scuff the rims, then spray them with what is called "Antique Gold", leaving the center caps black.

Pretty sure they will look good. My girlfriend said it won't look as good as blacked out rims, but women are never right about anything...

    The color I chose...

I don't know... Looking at the photos, not sure that style of rim is going to be able to pull off that color. A deeper dish rim with more offset looks good bronze. Not sure about the stock rim. I guess I'll find out.

I may be just a bit bias here, Black is the new whatever (especially over chrome). LOL! You've "blacked" your SR5. IMHO, FWIW, stay with the black.

That color isn’t my cup of tea and I think you’ll get sick of it.

However it’s your runner, do what makes you happy.

I do love the look of some bronze rims, but it depends heavily on the vehicle overall and the and the hue of the bronze IMHO.

Blacked out badges, window deflectors, smoked 3rd brake light. I have a Borla muffler on order as well as some color matched engine cover stickers. I'll be painting the stock wheels soon as well. Falken tires in the fall as well.
I've seen stock SR5 wheels painted bronze and while it's not to my taste they look good. I don't know about the caps being black but give it a shot on one wheel and see. If you don't like it just paint the caps too. I painted mine gloss black and the Toyota logos matte black. Your Runner, do what YOU like.

Almost done... One side is done and the other is drying. Still have to get rid of some overspray on the tires and armorall them, but so far liking the look.

The black hubs look better than I thought they would.

Everyone and their mother has black wheels with a white 4runner, that’s why I went with bronze too. They came out looking good!

She just said that she was glad I was happy with them. I did install new curtains in the living room that she picked out, so I'm still on her good side.

My first reaction was that the color was going to be too much. After seeing it, the contrast with the white is actually exceptional. Nice looking ride!
