Ok, what do u guys think, Southern Style or Prinsu roof rack for my 4 runner?
Eventually I plan on putting a roof top tent, maybe Roofnest Falcon.
    Thanks
    Frank

I'd look at Sherpa. Only rack system that I've seen that bothers to seal the roof mounting points correctly.

    ^ I agree.

I’ve read some water leak horror stories. I went with Sherpa for the quality and peace of mind.

The Sherpa looks great to me, and weighs only 51 lbs. SSO's rack also looks great, but it weighs 90 lbs. If you're looking to shave a few pounds off your rig, the best place to look for weight savings is something that mounts high above the vehicle's center of gravity, such as the roof rack.

Awesome responses, thank you all, I’ll check out the Sherpa and the detailed comparison of the two I inquired about.

Well the. Current lead time is 8 to 10 weeks, maybe, except for Victory 4x4, says 12 to 15 days? I better check that. I like Sherpa seems most sturdy but I have an issue. It looks like the roof bolts attach directly to a pair of cross bars which structurally seems fine, but I want to be able to attach the 2 cross bars to the roof top tent and keep them there to install and uninstall the tent if u know what I mean. I would not be able to do this if the cross bars are bolted to the roof instead of the side rails.
    Thanks

The roof bolts go into four mounting brackets, you then use additional bolts to bolt the mounting bracket to the side rails, see below. You can still leave two cross bars attached to your RTT to aid in installation and removal.

Nice, thanks for the info, just moved Sherpa to the top of my list. How’s the noise level in your opinion, I noticed on the installs they leave a gap between the roof and front fairing, as opposed to the other ones that actually touch the roof.
    Thanks again

With just the rack I don’t notice much difference between Sherpa and the stock rack. With maxtrax, plano case and awning on, I hear a little. The noise coming from my tires is louder than any wind noise from the rack that I’ve noticed.

The wind fairing is adjustable. I have mine resting on the roof. I did put a clear vinyl strip on before installing the rack to prevent rubbing on the paint.

Wow. I was just looking at the Sherpa, Prinsu or Victory 4x4.

Thank you for mentioning about the valence being adjustable. That also was a question for me.

Last question is if you have a moonroof; can the any of those configure the cross bars to have one at the very front onto of the. Valence then a large gap for the moonroof then the rest of their cross bars the rest of the rack?

    Thanks so much!

Just to stir the pot.... zero wind noise and easily removable - aaand half the cost, I’ve been on hwy with it cruising at 80mph and took it wheeling. My wife, son and I slept in the tent overnight. ZERO issues or complaints..

I though about that but the tent I want is 90” long I thin but it goes from the wind shield all the way to the back fin, and I think it weighs 140lbs , I figure I need the support at the front. You have a great setup though.
    thanks.

No worries. Sounds like you’ve done some research too. Are you going to remove the fin? Get a roof rack that clears it? There’s quiet a bit of room aft of it that can be used.

Thanks for that picture, I may go with something like that. We have a rtt on order and I hope to be able to swap it between the Taco and Runner. I like how it raised up over the fin.

I don’t have a moon roof, but there is room for adjusting the position of the cross bars forwards and backwards.

Worst case scenario, just leave the cross bar that would normally sit above the moon roof off and then enjoy your moon roof.

HANK, yes I named him. 2018 TRD OffRoad.
Always a work in progress. Pretty sure I buy some new gadget every time I head out on a trip. Kings w/bypass shocks. Total Chaos upper and lower control arms. Shock Seals rear springs. Method Wheels. BFG All Terrains. SSO front bumper and roof rack. Cali Raised ditch lights and rock sliders. Heise light bar on bumper. Aftermarket roof rack light bar. PCI Radio. RAM mounts for various gadgets. ARB dual air compressor. RAGO battery and secondary battery mounts. Dometic fridge and slide. Auxiliary battery for the fridge and gadgets. CVT Mt Hood RTT. Rago cargo storage panels. Westcott rear hatch ladder. Upgraded rear hatch shocks and rear amber from Amazon, Anytime backup FRONT camera with switch. Lots of trail racing stripes. :(
I have the SSO and will be getting a roofnest. Haven’t put a rtt on it yet, but I love everything about my SSO rack. So easy to mount stuff because of the channels. I’ve hauled all kinds of stuff up there, including two huge kayaks. And the rack by itself creates little to no noise.

Every slot has a crossbar on mine, I bought extra. I thought the ones over the moonroof would bother me but they done. I leave them on full time.

(Need to update my pic, it’s from before I had the rack.)

I wish user manual has max roof load carry specs (not only roof luggage carrier weight). I hope 120lbs is not the max roof carry capacity.

(I completely gave up on RTT plan after watching few videos, but thought of giving a little reminder on this)

Well guys I bought the Sherpa roof rack and am very pleased with it. Easy to install and very sturdy. Thank you all for your great responses. Next addition skid plates, maybe C4.
Does anybody know how I could find a group going camping/overlanding to Colorado, later this year, maybe May or June. I’ll be coming from Houston Texans. thanks
