How Long Have You Owned Your 3rd Gen?

My old 4Runner is like a middle aged lab. It's not the best any more. It can't jump the highest or run the fastest, but it's trustworthy.

 

If only that eight point buck didn’t run into my door...

 

the older 4Runners are battled tested...especially 2nd or 3rd gens

 

I've had my pickup since 88, my 4Runner since 97 or so, (both are 87's) and we just got our 99 Runner. Maybe 1 week ago. Needs a little work, but nothing major. Overall clean, and runs great.

i just sold my 2000 limited last July ($8k), had it for 20 yrs and 210,000 miles - bought a 2019 - night and day difference between the two

 

Can you go into more details? I drove 4th gen several years back. It still felt like a 4runner. It was definitely quiet compared to my 3rd gen ( also my biggest 3rd comfort complaint).

 

My 99 4Runner SR5 5spd w/elocker, was a rollover that I rebuilt. Original owner wrecked it in May, I had it repaired and back on the road by October 1999, with 1,972 miles on the odometer. 230,000 miles now. Never any problems.Usual maintenance, timing belts, plugs, etc. replaced the clutch at 210k. Just passed it down to my daughter. Her turn to wheel it in southern Utah.

 

The 5th Gen has: more HP/Torque, better traction control, better suspension, better ride overall over the 3rd Gen - also don't ned to replace the serpentine belt every 100,000 miles

 

I don't think the third gens had any traction control. Depending on the spec some didn't come with ABS.

 

I bought my 99 in 2007 for $8500 and 87K miles on it. Now has 270K miles.

 

My 2002 has Traction Control and ABS. Pretty sure that was standard equipment for all 2001-2002's at least.

I am the original owner of my 4Runner. So have had her since 2002 and have put just about every mile of the 260k on her she has now. Still runs great.

 

The base trim 4runners of the 90's made ABS optional, mine doesn't have it equipped. I don't know if there is any way to tell if there is traction control, but mine has no lights on the dash indicating if its operational, which there usually is on vehicles with traction control.
