What exactly are you trying to upgrade? Pads? Caliper? Rotors? Entire brake system upgrade?

I'm asking this to determine what you need, but what are OEM brakes not doing, or how are they not meeting your expectations?

I feel like a lot of guys want "better" braking when the 4Runner brakes are actually very good. Put your foot into it, she'll stop quick.

I was really just wanting to see what’s out there. I’m pretty sure I have a caliper that’s sticking and has caused my rotor to warp so it’s time for new parts. I’ve got 163,000 and ever since the factory brakes wore out. It just seems like anything I buy from Advance is junk.

I’m slowly becoming a buy from factory kind of guy

You might have been switching up on the material on brake pads. You have semi-metallic and ceramic brake pads, and each have their pros and cons. I believe the OEM ones are semi metallic which I prefer due to its properties.

Unless you've got the technical know how, get the calipers serviced and cleaned. The rest of it is easy, replace the disks and pads and follow the manufacturers break in process.

OEM is great, I however wanted to try something new and went with Powerstop Z36 all around. I'm happy with them. Feels the same as OEM but with cool holes drilled in the rotors.

Looking at Hawk ceramic pads myself. Personal preference. I would also like to find a good set of Braided brake lines if anyone has experience with them on a Toyota.

Didn't see anything for 2009 and later, but did see the "covid excuse" for longer shipping times. Hard pass.

    Summit has some stop techs.

As far as pads go, NAPA adaptive one are the best I've ever used. Unfortunately they don't have them for every vehicle but they do make them for the 5th gen 4Runner, I think most all OEM pads are horrible.

Changed out the stopper juice today and got some factory Toyota air out of the rear lines. Pedal feels better, less squishy. I just wish the nanny brake assist would regulate the pressure better. So, the rear does more work. Sounded like a circus while bleeding. Vacuum motors, warning bells and flashing lights. Would rip it all out and go old school if i could.
