Help needed, A Hose hanging on passenger side firewall. 4th gen

Hello, with all the ice and cold that hit us here in texas, we had a few animals come in to the garage to get out of the cold. I found a rat in the engine compartment and I found this hose partially chewed on. But I don't know if it's supposed to go to anything?
It's on a 2005 toyota 4runner v8 4wd. Any ideas?

 

Welcome from N Austin!! If you’re local I could stop by and take a look but, the 2003-2005 2uzfe trans are different than the 06-09. I believe the yellow cap is your transmission dip stick? It’s hard to see the exact location but it seems to be near that?

if you are able to take a more zoomed out picture I might be able to help, unless someone beats me to it.
Edited: that’s your oil dip stick... this TX winter got my mind hazy

 

Looks like condensation drip hose. Pretty sure.

so it wasn't chewed off and is it supposed to look like that? I have the exact same 4runner except its a v6 and was wondering what that hose was for. My 4R is overheating off and on. I have changed water pump thermostat twice and replaced radiator once. it seems to only over heat in intervals now that its over 100 in okiahoma I'm worried that I'm loosing more than normal from that hose.

 

The cosmetics of the drain hose don't matter much, although some owners lengthen it to route drips away from the frame for rust prevention. It will drip more when you use the AC more and it will drip more in humid weather. It shouldn't be correlated with overheating unless your radiator and fan aren't up to par, in which case running the AC could boost engine heat a little.

 

That hose has no connection to the engine cooling system.

Since you replaced most everything to do with the cooling system, you may have the start of a blown head gasket. You should check for exhaust gases in your coolant.

You may also want to check your engine fan and fan clutch.

 

Does it overheat at highway speeds? If it overheats only in slow moving traffic, your fan clutch likely went bad.

 

Extending the condensation tube is a good hedge against frame rust. We’ll never know what Toyota was thinking when they placed that thing where it drips water right onto a frame that’s unfortunately rusted right out from under a lot of owners but it’s an

Extending the evaporator drain tube does nothing for frame rust.

 

Other than help prevent it by eliminating a constant drip onto the frame?

 

^Condensate water is cleaner than rain water. Compared to salt, magnesium chloride, and other road deicers, condensate water does no harm to the frame.

You think condensate water is anything compared to this? The Toyota engineers in Japan lose their minds when they see pictures like this:

 

Perhaps, but in the context of these particular frames that were not properly treated and have a history such that they do, any moisture is bad moisture.
