    Hi All,
My wife is sold on a 5th gen 4Runner, under the stipulation that we get one with a 3rd Row seat.

    I guess this leaves SR5 / Premium / Limited

    4x4 is a must

Can a 3rd row seat be swapped in to a different trim level, or is the body different enough on the other trims that this would not be feasible?

    Thanks!

Can be done, but 3rd row also has seatbelts. You would also need to include those.

    I don’t think it’s worth the trouble.

Thanks for the feedback. Looking for something with a locker but can always add one to SR5

Still learning about 5th gen - does the AWD system also have a 4 Low setting to "lock" the transfer case / center diff?

Yes. The 5th gen 4Runner Limited with Full time 4 wheel drive when you are on H4F its in center diff unlocked rear wheel biased 4wd. When you switch to H4L its center diff lock 4wd. When you select L4L its in low range 4wd with center diff locked. In addition to that you have A-trac and down hill assist control.

    Good to know, thanks

I see in your profile you have 2 seven seater models. "How bad is it" back there? Will anyone bigger than an 8 year old fit?

38 year old fit in there. I'm a small guy, 5' 5" though. Here's my video of explaining..

I love my 3rd row, but I wouldn't want to sit back there for anything longer than a trip to a restaurant. It's a kids row or for shorter, thinner adults.

I have an SR5 Premium, but in retrospect, I would have considered a Limited. I believe they have the same 4wd system as the Land Cruiser and GX460 have.

I bought the Limited because my wife didn't like to switch back and forth from 2wd to 4wd. SR5 would be a better option if you want to take it on trails. Limited needs more work to take it offroad in my opinion.
