Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
Press any button to wake it up, some crook's waiting, that's his score. I never said it wouldn't be tedious.

HANK, yes I named him. 2018 TRD OffRoad.
Always a work in progress. Pretty sure I buy some new gadget every time I head out on a trip. Kings w/bypass shocks. Total Chaos upper and lower control arms. Shock Seals rear springs. Method Wheels. BFG All Terrains. SSO front bumper and roof rack. Cali Raised ditch lights and rock sliders. Heise light bar on bumper. Aftermarket roof rack light bar. PCI Radio. RAM mounts for various gadgets. ARB dual air compressor. RAGO battery and secondary battery mounts. Dometic fridge and slide. Auxiliary battery for the fridge and gadgets. CVT Mt Hood RTT. Rago cargo storage panels. Westcott rear hatch ladder. Upgraded rear hatch shocks and rear amber from Amazon, Anytime backup FRONT camera with switch. Lots of trail racing stripes. :(
I’m paranoid. I just got home from making the appointment to have an alarm installed on my 4Runner. I also have my Ring camera pointing at my 4Runner in the driveway. In addition, I bought a $40 GPS tracker off Amazon that I pay a $20 a month subscription for. And now, after reading this I may get rid of the tracker and add a relay kill switch toggle as suggested. Kinda love that idea.

The paranoia stems from having my Chevy Silverado HD 4x4 stolen twice. Once from in front of my house. The cops can’t do anything. We could even identify who stole it the first time because we tracked our phone they had, to a house a few miles away. So frustrating.

Anyway, with all the extras I have (and am waiting for) on the 4Runner I figured I’d go the safer route. Even if it is overkill.

    All of them.
I had my first ever scare last night of someone trying to either harm me or car jack my truck. I’m not 100% sure because the man never said anything but I was on my way home from work when the car in front of me (little black Mazda looking hatch back with no plates) stopped dead in front of me.

I thought what the hell dude and flashed my lights blew the horn the normal stuff. After that didn’t work I started reversing to try and get around the guy and he put his car in reverse and backed up keeping me pinned in front to back. I decided to try and go through the median and in the time It took me to put it into 4wd back up just enough to go around he was at my driver door trying to pull open the door. I sped off and called 911 to let them know what happened and they had me pull into a nearby church parking lot and wait for them and advised me to stay in my car and wait for the officer.

Never had I have I ever had anything like that happen before I’ve had my Tacoma broken into I’ve had other cars windows smashed to get goodies out of. But I live in Memphis at the time living in freakin Knoxville and not even remotely close to downtown I would have never expected that to happen in that area.

needless to say I am researching dash cams now. They have been on the radar but now they got moved to the front of the line. Looking at a rear and front system.

Wow, that is scary and very quick and good thinking on you. A couple of good points I see that you did. Always keep your door locked and window up, and never be in the middle lane if you have one. Especially in high crime areas.

Absolutely unless it’s sunny and 80+ degrees and I’m moving my windows are up. And the doors auto lock as soon as I pull it out of park. Not to mention the amount of equipment that regularly stays in my truck.

This is also why I chose the 2021 trd off road, its the last model with a regular key start. I didn't want to mess with a faraday cage. Also its a 4x4 come on Toyota we don't need a dainty push start, give us all keys lol.

which proves...crime or potential for any..is everywhere...years of liberal policies, have brought the chickens home to roost. I'm seeing far to many cases, of persons committing crimes, etc..arrested, and back out to do stuff over and over...with virtually no fear of jail sentences..etc...myself, I'm not gonna worry about myself hurting these clowns, while defending myself-and-or-my 4runner...

part of the high vehicle theft are the lenient consequences
while you are politically correct, installing kill switches and buying faraday boxes is only a bandaid - make it 5 years in jail no parole first strike and you'll see how suddenly you can leave that car unlocked on the street. In canada I think it is 6 months in jail after the 3rd successful conviction...and its most likely weekend sessions and released after 30 days, then we go back to zero :)

In my opinion your way over thinking this you surf the web right, do you own a debit or credit card? Those can be stolen even easier, lock the vehicle when your not in it and get some sleep tonight. It would suck being stolen but that's why they invented insurance.

I keep my keys in a tin box at home(same for the spares), makes a nice Faraday cage. I have tested keyless entey in the car while rhe keys are in the tin box and nada, so I am fairly confident.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.

On top of your procedures already in place, You can shut off the remote RF transmission in regards to the proximity function working. Press lock and hold while pressing unlock twice. The remote led will blink several times times to disable this function. Standard lock/unlock function will work and disable each time used. This will also save on the battery life.
Will have to be performed each time before being placed back into your Faraday cage after each use however. Another layer in my opinion.
