Looking for suggestions on cargo containers to put on top of my trd stock roof rack.
Currently looking at Thule but open to suggestions.

I don't know the differences between the racks but I have an SR5 and use the Thule Motion XT. REI insists that it won't work with stock cross bars but several of us Runner owners use them and it works just fine. a little close to the sharkfin antenna but no issues.

We used one for a few days. Was traveling cross country from Maine. By the time I got to Denver, I waited a day to get a bag and basket so I could throw away the cargo carrier. At any speed over 70 it started bouncing on the roof, hitting the sun roof. I stopped a few times to rearrange shit in it, only to be aggravated after 10 minutes back on the highway.
So, if you get a cargo carrier, make sure it doesn’t over hang your rack, or get a basket and bag.

Yea they look great! I have the stock trd pro rack so I will just have to make sure I can secure the box to the rack.

I highly recommend you check out the Packasport line before you look at Thule or anyone else. There is no comparison. Yakima and Thule are stamped plastic. Packasport uses the same process that camper shells (aka toppers) are made of. You need to see for yourself - yes, they are expensive, but you can find used ones for great deals.

That sounds pretty odd. My Yakima Skybox 16 overhangs the front of my Pro rack by a couple feet and is rock solid at 80 mph. It fits skis up to 180 cm and doesn’t interfere with the back hatch going all the way up — though I had to remove an inch or so of plastic from the edge of the box lid with a grinder so it would clear the spoiler. I might have been able to avoid that by mounting the box a little further forward, but I was trying to keep it mounted as far back as possible.

I can say it cost me hours on our trip and was pretty scary the first time it happened then became really annoying for a couple of days.

I bet it was scary. That sucks. Out of curiosity, what box was it?

I bought it used, it was one of those cargo carriers, think it was a Sears one. Because it overhung in the front, the only thing I might have been able to do was put wood under it or in it.
I think we were able to stuff more in the cargo bag anyways and nothing over the sunroof

Did you find a thule cargo box that works with the Pro roof basket? I'm tempted to get the Thule Motion XT XL - but trying to research a little more if it will fit.

I don't have direct experience with a Motion XT, so take this with a grain of salt. But the issue I'd watch out for with that design is the way the mounting claws are recessed. It seems designed to work on raised crossbars, which the Pro rack does not have. I have an old Thule ski box with a similar design, and I couldn't get it to fit right. The annoying thing about the Pro rack is that the rear aluminum tube is flush with the moveable crossbars. So if the mounting mechanism on the box is not flush with with the bottom of the box, there's a good chance rear tube will interfere with the box sitting properly. The only way my old Thule box would fit was if it the rear end was hanging off the back far enough to clear the tube -- but then the box prevented the back hatch from opening. When I pushed the box far enough forward so the hatch would clear, the rear tube prevented the recessed claws from reaching the crossbars properly.

I don't know the exact measurements of the Motion XT, so maybe there's a way to make it work. But looking at a photo of it, seems like it could present the same problem I had.

What other boxes have you used. I’m looking at Roam boxes but not excited about drilling holes in a 300 dollar box.
