    Hey guys, new here.

Just purchased my first 4runner so very new to the game... I was looking at the blitz 5th gen front bumper and was wondering if these would fly in California.

I know there are some funky light bar laws and obviously a front license plate law. I was wondering if there are any work arounds for these in California.. I.E. how are people mounting their front license plates to these?

Any help or links would be much appreciated!

Here is a link for the bumper I am looking at:

    Thanks!

Fairlead License Plate Filp Mounting Kit, is my guess. There are several manufacturers to choose from.

Haven’t ran a front license plate in 7 years and have had no issues in California. I wouldn’t stress about it.

Ah good to go Antman, thanks. Wasn't sure how strict it was.

What about the led light bars? Are they pretty strict about those in California?

    I'm in California

And I'm a cop in California

And I don't give two shits about a front plate and especially not a lightbar

Nor do I work with anyone who does

I don't have a front plate, and I have a lightbar... never been stopped anywhere for them

Depending on where you are and what profile you present, YMMV

I suggest not running them while on the street. Because you’ll just blind people. Tbh most light bars are only for looks and not usage. Not hating though.

    The same 4Runner everyone has
Illegal to use on the road and you can also technically be cited for having any uncovered auxiliary lighting (with the exception of SAE J581 compliant lights, also known as auxiliary high-beam or driving lights).

However, light bars have become so insanely common that I've rarely heard of anyone being cited for uncovered lights. You might look conspicuous with large reflector style lights (like KC HiLiTES, etc.) but most bars seem to fly under the radar. I've had mine on the roof for over a year now with no hassles. Just don't use it on the road like an idiot.

Understood. Definitely wasn't planning on using them while driving around on the street. Sounds like my concerns were pretty trivial.

Really helpful stuff guys, appreciate your time.

Hey, 4runningman, Mine on a Blitz. It gives you access to the line, but it may not flip enough out of the way for all situations. I plan on removing my plate if I need to use the winch in a demanding situation on the trail. Easy enough to do.

Hey Meefzah, I guess the police here in Canada have less to do, because they'd pull you over in a minute for that in Ontario, where I live. lol.

Well there's a few issues at play here. This isn't political, it's just factual:

First, basically nothing is illegal in California anymore. Second, the things that are illegal are almost exclusively not arrestable - ticket only. Third, the few things that are arrestable, the jail almost immediately releases the person after issuing them a court date. Third-sub A, with Covid the jail is refusing about 98% of arrests, only the most violent. Fourth, the district attorney almost always fails to file a criminal charge. Fifth, even when the DA files a criminal charge, the courts often throw it out. Sixth, cops have become the bad guys and everything we do is hyper scrutinized, and we're basically being criminally charged and / or departmentally sanctioned for trying to maintain order.

So you have a broken system wherein lawlessness is encouraged and those who try to stop the descent into chaos are persecuted.

I don't know a cop in California that cares about doing cop work anymore. Me, I clock in, go sit in a fenced in lot in my car, and play on my phone. I drive really slowly to calls and write down all the horrible things that happened, then I return to my perch and resume playing on my phone. It tears me up, honestly, because I used to be very proactive and did a solid job and earned my keep. But now? They pay me the same no matter what I do, so why give a shit about "protecting society" when society will fuck me up the heinie hole first chance they get? Thank God I'm almost dead or retired (24 years on).

Summary: ain't no one care about no front plate

Thanks for telling it like it is, Meefzah. It sounds pretty scary, speaking as a law abiding citizen living in a small town in Canada where we all know one another and don't carry guns.

I mean, to be fair, generally shitbags victimize shitbags. We really don't see a lot of stranger on stranger / random victim type crimes. To that end, nothing for good people to be scared of... although I do promote lawful concealed firearm carry, and I absolutely rejoice when a decent citizen delivers 180gr of karma to a piece of shit. It's the only real justice anymore.

    Nothing that isn’t true.

You did leave out the bit where the courts really don’t care as much (if at all) about the real victims of crime. Maybe I meant DA’s.

That’s very true also, ian408, however those seeking justice for victims don’t understand that justice is a societal concept, and one that can never satisfy the personal needs of victims, although some modern reforms and compensatory measures are attempting to do so.
