4runner vs the new Ford bronco

No. It doesn't.

 

Saw one in person the other day and was not impressed.
It also looked similar size to a RAV4 (although I saw it in passing while driving).

 

You saw the Bronco Sport. Totally different rig; based on the Escape.

 

Saw a full size new Bronco on the road the other day in Naples Florida. It sticks out.
Must be a dealer sample. We had just passed a Ferrari dealer.

 

What were your impressions?
Which trim level? Any clue?
Ford peeps have been driving them for a while now. I don't think any dealers have sample units yet.

 

Any SUV that you can order with 35” tires is going to be a winner, it’s simple. Also, Ford is a good manufacturer, maybe not as good as Toyota on a lot of little things that bring them down in ratings, but I wouldn’t hesitate buying a Bronco. The only thing that would make me hesitate is it’s ICE technology. Good luck finding the spark plugs on a Bronco. Nobody shows you the engine compartment during a Ford commercial, it’s all horses and desert.

Don't forget 4.7 gearing too from the factory.
And just in case you missed it. Shop put it on 37s already!

 

Could be way off but I see it somewhere in between a jeep and 4R in terms of stock off road capability with Jeep at the top and somewhere in between jeep and 4R in terms of stock all round off road/on road use with 4R being on top of that list. It’s going to take a lot for me to admit it’ll knock the 4R off the mountain in terms of all around suv. The 4R is strong all around and reliable and I don’t think jeep nor bronco will deliver that to be honest.

 

And while beefy axles, better gearing and 35s/37s are awesome looking and performing I know first hand from jeeps it’s not awesome on the pocket book nor the smoothness of the ride off the trail.

 

For certain. I am not thinking the Bronco will be as reliable as the 4Runner. But, frankly I got bored of the 4Runner and wanted a new platform. The 4.7 gearing, 2.7 turbo motor, 10 speed tranny, disco, 2 DR, 35's stock (37's looking possible), Ford Performance upgraded half shafts......plus I've always loved the way old Bronco's look...and this thing is kinda close'ish...sorta.

 

Oh trust me I’m watching closely! This thing could be a game changer for sure. First time I see one like you described I may be on my way too. Can’t wait to see some around to be honest.

 

My sister in laws husband was driving his fairly new Explorer on the highway, and the A pillar, molding, on the drivers side of the windshield. Blew off at 70 miles a hour...,, Is it made at the same plant??

 

And the piece thats under the rear window ALWAYS cracks....

If a molding flying off is the worse thing that happens I'd be happy.

 

Does the dash screen look like an Atari? Or is it something new?

 

If you mean antiquated the answer is no.

 

I think the Explorers are made at the Plant in Chicago. The Bronco is being made at the Michigan Plant along with the Ranger.

As to the Bronco itself, I ditched my reservation and ordered my 4Runner instead after the joke that the launch had become. That, and the 4Runner checked off all of the boxes for me, and is coming in a fair bit cheaper than my Bronco build. It has the cargo space, reliability, on and off-road capabilities for daily driving and that trip to the Black Gap Road at Big Bend National Park I've been wanting to take someday soon.

Now, I still fully intend to get a Bronco, but, I'm waiting until they are out in the wild and can get an in-person look and take a test drive before ordering one, or finding one on the lot. As well as waiting to hear some reviews and possible issues that may crop up. So, probably around '22 or '23 I'll trade in my Patriot and have a Bronco parked next to my 4Runner...and my Wife is not going to be too enthused *laughs* In her exact words when we were looking at the 4Runners on the lot before I ordered my ORP: "Why do you always go for vehicles that sit higher? What in the hell do you have against us short people?!"

 

I made my deposit the night they revealed it and ordered a badlands thereafter. Unfortunately, Ford keeps moving the delivery back. I don’t discriminate when it comes to my tools. I have two bull nose Broncos, a Toyota and Chevy truck, Jeep and a Dodge diesel. I almost pulled the trigger on a new 4Runner but then the Bronco revealed. With all these delays I just might go back to Toy.

 

My guess is in 3-4 years we will all meet again in the bronco forum

 

Looked good / completely different than anything else on the road. I think they will be a hit.

 

I was initially intrigued by the idea of the new Bronco, but the more I looked at them, the less interested I got. Seems to me that they're going to appeal much more to the Jeep market than the 4Runner market. It's been a long time since I saw a Jeep I truly liked the looks of, and, while I like some aspects of the new design, overall I feel the same way about the Bronco (especially the 4-door). I've never been that into the idea of removable roof and doors, so clearly it wasn't designed to appeal to me. I'm looking forward to seeing them on (and off) the road, and I'm glad there's a new player in the class. But I pretty quickly decided on a 2021 4Runner instead of waiting for a Bronco, and I couldn't be happier with that choice.

 

4Runner will serve you well.
I never intend on taking the doors or roof off the Bronco.

 

Saw a bronco sport today it’s tiny but good looking my son loved it
the lift is pretty good should fit nicely in fords product line but it’s competition is definitely a rav4 adventure

I honestly hope that the Bronco turns out to be reliable and a great vehicle. I love the looks of it and the capability. More competition in the off-road capable market is a good thing. That said, my 4Runner with a 2.5" lift and 33s is as capable of a vehicle that I need. I doubt that few people who buy the Bronco will actually ever utilize it's capability and end up in the Jeep Rubicon mall-crawler crowd, but whatever floats their boat. I see a ton of Raptors around here where we have no desert and no terrain that the Raptor was designed for. The Bronco would be a bit more applicable, however.
